Trudeau wears Cricket Canada shirt- details of Global T20 emerge.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is on an official visit to India, and took part in a cricket event in New Delhi, wearing a Cricket Canada shirt. Cricket Canada President Ranjit Saini was present, and CricketNext reported the event with the headline “Justin Trudeau pleased with ICC approval for Canada’s T20 league”.
It seems unlikely that the opinion of the ICC on a new cricket league would be high on the Canadian Prime Minister’s priorities, but the article does provide more information, presumably gleaned from the Cricket Canada president and representatives of Mercuri, the promoters of the league. The article suggests
– The League will be played this July
– It will take place in three venues in Toronto (this seems to be speculative as there really are only two possible venues to hold a high profile event, the Toronto cricket club and Maple Leaf CC).
– The league is “conceptualised, designed, developed and managed by Mercuri Group with Cricket Canada”
– The ICC has sanctioned the event

Ranjit Saini is quoted as saying
““Twenty20 Major League Cricket has the potential to change Canadian cricket forever. It is a great challenge and Cricket Canada is ready to deliver a resounding success. Canada is a great sporting country and event hosting and management skills exist in abundance. This event will not only be a great cricket experience, it will also help grow our tourism potential as a nation.”

The Indian Express also has coverage suggesting
“The three venues are Toronto Cricket Skating and Curling Club (where Sahara Cup was played for three seasons between India and Pakistan), Sunnybrook Park, Maple Leaf Cricket Club.
Four Canadian local players will be playing in every squad, with T20 freelancers from Pakistan, West Indies, New Zealand expected to ply their trade. A high-powered Cricket Advisory Board to be formed made up of eminent former players. The likes of Brendon McCullum, Kieron Pollard, Dwayne Bravo are all expected to play.”
