Cricket Canada elections

Cricket Canada has posted a call for nominations on its web site, with elections scheduled for 5-6 May this year. The positions of President, Secretary and two directors of large will be elected for two year terms, and those of the Vice-President and two directors of large for one year terms. The by-laws state that elections for President and Secretary; and Treasurer and Vice-President should be held on alternate years, but it is understood that these elections are being held partially in response to issues with last year’s elections, and thus all positions, other than the Treasurer, are up for election.

Voting in elections is by the Provincial Members, with the number of votes based on the number of active clubs in their province. Currently Alberta, BC and Ontario hold four votes each, with the other members holding one vote each (7 in all).

The incumbents (with province of residence) are Ranjit Saini (President, Ontario), Rashpal Bajwa (Vice President, BC), Mike Sharma (Secretary, Saskatchewan), Charles Pais (Treasurer, Quebec), Mohammed Shaikh (Director, Ontario), Amit Joshi (Director, Nova Scotia), Praim Persaud (Director, Ontario) and Dave Liverman (Director, Newfoundland and Labrador).

Cricket Canada have also announced revisions to the by-laws made at a recent Special General Meeting, apparently made in response to an ICC review of governance.
