Mississauga Youth Tournament: South Young Warriors win and Revised Thursday Schedule

Both Mississauga City XI U18 opening bats were run out in the first over against Trinidad’s South Young Warriors U18 and the Mississauga XI never really recovered from these early setbacks and mostly stumbled to 57 all out. South Young Warriors soon rattled up the necessary runs and are due to play Ontario Cricket Academy U18s at Mavis today (Thursday, August 2, 2018) with a revised start time of 2pm. The game was previously slated for an 11am start.
Today’s game for South Young Warriors (2 wins, 1 defeat) will complete their round robin games. The Warriors lost to Cricket Ontario High Performance U18 XI last Saturday at Mavis then beat Atlantic Region U18 (USA) on Monday. Today’s Atlantic Region U18s game against Cricket Ontario HP U18 XI has been changed to a 2pm start at Paul Coffey Park, Malton. This U18 game was originally scheduled for a 9am start at Malton.
The Under-18 round-robin concludes on Friday and is due to continue with one semi-final on each of Saturday and Sunday before Monday’s Simcoe Civic Holiday Day Final (August 6) that is currently slated for a 10am start at the Mavis ground in Mississauga.
The Under-14 competition is due to conclude with a final on Sunday morning at Mavis. Cricket Ontario U14s are due to play Dreamcricket USA U14s today (Thursday, August 2) at Mavis with a 9am start.

Gomez stars with bat and ball
The Mississauga XI limped out of the opening over with 4 runs and two lost wickets due to run outs then struggled to 57 all out after 16.4 overs of a potential 30 overs. Asim Ahmed, batting at five, top-scored with 24* while the left-arm bowling of Isiah Gomez picked up 4 wickets for 11 runs from 4 overs.
South Young Warriors lost a wicket in the third over with 10 runs on the board. Gomez, who powered 74* in a win over Atlantic Region Cricket Board (USA) on Monday, came in at number 3 and struck 37* to secure victory. South Young Warriors clipped a winning 59 for 1 wicket from 8.1 overs. Opening bat Rodney Beharry scored 14*.
South Young Warriors loss was by 60 runs against the Cricket Ontario High Performance XI last Saturday (July 28). Canadian U19 world cup player Ashtan Deosammy hit 65* in the Cricket Ontario XI’s 201/5 from 30 overs. Matthew Nandu made 57 according to one version of the scorecard or 62 according to a Cricket Ontario facebook post. Wicketkeeper Nicholas Manohar hit 26. South Young Warriors replied with 141/7 from 40 overs. Warrior’s Isiah Gomez, batting at six, top-scored with 46 and number four Darren Samlal made 36.

The Mavis ground is accessible from Courtneypark, near the intersection with Mavis (west of ground) and is east of the intersection with McLoughlin (east of ground). Mississauga Secondary School is on the east of the ground and St Marcellinus Secondary School is to the west of the ground.
