Cricket Canada updates

The Cricket Canada website has been largely filled with Global T20 news for the last three months with little information on Cricket Canada’s own programmes. The site finally has been updated with worthwhile news,
National T20
This was listed on the Cricket Canada web site for the last few months as taking place in late July. Yesterday CC posted on their web site:-
“Cricket Canada National T20 to be held August 15-17 at the Maple Leaf Cricket Club.
60 best players mixed into 4 teams, from all across Canada to feature in this double round robin event which will also serve as a selection tournament for World T20 Qualifiers that will be staged in the USA.
Stay tuned for more details on this!”
A number of other sources have provided information on potential participants – Quebec announced players from eastern Canada back in May, including three from Nova Scotia, four from Quebec, two from NB, two from NL, and one from PEI. At that time it ewas envisioned that this group would compete as a team, so plans may well have changed.

Summer Festival – the CC web site now has the following information (provided here without editing):-
“The festival is set to commence from 27th August and conclude on 7th of September. The teams yet to be confirmed, but would likely compete at the summer festival are Canada, Canada Team A, West Indies Team A and the America’s.
The festival would feature one day as well as T20’s and would be free entry in the ground to all our cricket fans. Spectators are expected to bring umbrellas and their favorite food to enjoy the best of this summer’s cricket carnival. The long weekend would witness all the T20 matches, a family friendly three hour version of sport. The event would also be streamed live for fans who wish to enjoy the matches from home.”

Women’s National Championship
Another web site post- short on essential details such as dates and venues
“After the successful completion of Global T20 with our Men’s Team which showcased some of the local talent, it’s now time for our Women’s Team. Cricket Canada announces its first ever Women’s National Championship including a series of Cricket Matches between Women teams across Canada. The matches would be held between a western team, that include the best of the talent from BC and Alberta, against two teams from Ontario.
The T20 format matches would serve as a selection tournament to pick Cricket Canada National Women’s Team. This National Team would represent Canada in all of the ICC organized Championships. Stay tuned to our website to check out final fixtures and venue details.”
