Trinidad and Tobago Secondary Schools to play at Toronto CSCC

TT Secondary Schools gents (boys) U18

Three squads of players from the Trinidad and Tobago Secondary Schools Cricket League (TTSSCL) are currently playing in the Greater Toronto Area. The tourists have Under-18 ladies and gents teams as well as an Under-19 gents team. “Ladies” seems to be the preferred term adopted by Canadian women’s cricketers so I have used “gents” for their male counterparts, although “Women” is used in the title of the female version the Mississauga Cricket League but no time for terminology discussions as play is due to begin in about 3 hours.

The gents TTSSCL Under-18 team has, so far, played two games on tour losing both games to the Ontario Cricket Academy (OCA). On Saturday (August 11, 2018) fifties from Harkaran Mann (73*) and Emanuel Kohkhar (58) steered the OCA to 171 for 2 from 20 overs on the artificial pitch at the Mavis ground in Mississauga, Ontario. The OCA bowlers restricted TTSSCL to 115 for 5 from 20 overs, giving OCA a win by 56 runs.

On Monday (August 13) OCA reached a winning 91 for 6 with 5 balls to spare after holding TTSSCL to 90 for 9 from 20 overs. Harkaran Mann (37*) played what he described as the anchor role. Runs seemed to flow more fluently with the seamers bowling than when the spinners came on and tied down the OCA scoring rate.

Today (Tuesday, August 14) the TTSSCC U18 gents squad will play the Toronto Mayor’s XI at the Toronto Cricket, Skating and Curling Club (10am scheduled start). The game will be played to either a 35 or 40 over limit per innings.

The ladies TTSSCL Starlets will conclude the tour with a game at the Toronto CSCC next Monday (August 20). The Starlets collapsed to some old fashioned spin bowling last Saturday where the ball was given some air and the innings slumped to 76 all out from 14.1 overs of a maximum 15. Monali Patel took 5 wickets for 8 runs from 2.1 eventful overs. Opening bats Miryam Khokhar and Achini Perera, who both recently played in the Courts T20 Grand Slam in Trinidad and Tobago, steered the Mississauga Women’s Cricket League to 96 for 3 from 15 overs. Miryam Khokhar made fifty and Achini Perera 36.
