Canada women lose to USA

The national women’s team were outclassed by the USA today in the first of a best of three T20 series to determine who advances to World Cup qualifiers, losing by 10 wickets. The games are taking place in Florida.
Canada batted first, and made a disappointing 66/6 from 20 overs. After losing a wicket from the second ball of the match, Perera and Mirchandani put on 51, but took 16 overs to do it. 14 year-old Lisa Ramjit took 2/5 in 4 overs. In response the USA got off to a flier against some erratic bowling, reaching 41 without loss after 6 overs, led by some powerful hitting from Erica Rendler and helped by some wides and mis-fields. The game was all over in 10 overs, Rendler finishing on 47 not out.
Canada were outplayed – long time observer of US cricket Peter Della Penna commented on Twitter
“Gulf between USA & Canada appears monumental. For all the crying that was made north of the border when USA was given a wildcard in 2017 to appear in the “Americas/Europe Qualifier” with Scotland and Netherlands, Canada’s solution apparently was to sit on their hands for 2 years.”
Harsh words, and the team has an opportunity to prove them wrong tomorrow.
