Cricket Canada have announced the squad to play in the upcoming U19 Americas World Cup qualifier July 6-16 at King City.
While the coaching staff are certainly well qualified it would be good to understand the rationale for not following Cricket Canada’s own policy on coach and manager appointment.
This states that an appointment committee should be in place:-
– The Committee should seek nominations from provincial associations.
– The Committee should also make a public call for candidates on the Cricket Canada web site and other social media platforms.
– The Committee should make recommendations to the board based on the job descriptions provided for each vacant position
Whether the committee was in place or not it seems clear that no open request for applications was made. Anil Khanna managed the U19 team that competed in the West Indies last year, and Kulbir Jaswal coached them. Farouk Kirmani coached the U19 team that competed well in the last World Cup. They are almost certainly the best qualified for the job- but still, the process and policy is there, and ignoring a well-thought out policy, approved b y board and membership is a very bad habit to get into.
