The Alberta Cricket Council, the Alberta Womens Cricket League and the Calgary and District Cricket League hosted teams from BC and Saskatchewan for the Westetn T20 last weekend. The tournament, held in Calgary, was won by the hosts defeating the BC Pearls in the final.

Given that neither the ACA or AWCL are part of the “official” body for cricket in Alberta, the Alberta Cricket Association, it is not clear whether Cricket Canada sanctioned the tournament, or used it in any way to evaluate players for national recognition. If this was indeed considered an unsanctioned tournament, it highlights the absurd situation in Alberta, where half the players are not considered to be playing official cricket.
