Quebec played and won two games on day 2 of the Eastern T20 on Saturday and with 3 wins from 3 games will be expecting to beat hosts Prince Edward Island (Won 1, Lost 2) this Sunday morning (21 July 2019) before re-appearing in this afternoon’s final. All games are being played at Tea Hill Park, Stratford, Prince Edward Island.
The two other provincial teams with current records of 1 win and 2 losses – New Brunswick and Newfoundland & Labrador – will meet in the last the round-round robin game on Sunday. Nova Scotia will watch and wait on Sunday morning with a record of 2 wins and 2 losses.
Nova Scotia bounced back from opening day losses to Quebec and New Brunswick with two big wins on Saturday. Nova Scotia pumped 127/2 from 9.5 overs to beat Prince Edward Island and closed the day with 104/2 from 11.4 overs to dent Newfoundland and Labrador’s prospects of an appearance in the playoffs.
As already mentioned, Nova Scotia has completed the round-robin phase with 2 wins and 2 losses. The Nova Scotia net run rate (NRR) of +0.3602 should stand up to a PEI win against Quebec (PEI has an NRR of -2.( must watch and wait on Sunday morning. On Saturday Nova Scotia pumped 127/2 from 9.5 overs to beat Prince Edward Island and ended the day by sweeping to victory after 11.4 overs against Newfoundland and Labrador with 104/2.
Opener Adeel Ilyas (26) and Nick Baxter (31) added 48 for N&L’s third wicket after losing two early wickets but the innings subsided to 102 all out from 18 overs after the fall of Baxter.
Baxter was one of 3 wickets to fall to Arun Nag, whose 3/36 from 3 overs were quite expensive but he removed a dangerous batsman. Neal Patel picked up the wicket of Ilyas, then top-scored in the successful Nova Scotia run chase. Neel Patel took 1/7 from 2 overs. Amit Joshi (27) and Konark Baharia (32*) also fired some quick runs in this Nova Scotia win.
The New Brunswick v Newfoundland and Labrador game sees both teams needing to win by a big margin to boost NRR. New Brunswick pulled off a rare win by Maritime provinces against Nova Scotia on Friday but would need a sizeable win to move ahead of Nova Scotia on NRR. New Brunswick’s NRR is currently -0.5678. Newfoundland & Labrador’s NRR dropped to – 2.1660 with the end of day loss to Nova Scotia.
