T&DCA Under-12 Junior Championship A First For Cardinals Sports Academy

[Toronto, November 12, 2020] Cardinals Sports Academy Under-12 captain Rohan Sikri struck 86* that carried his team to 149/9 from 20 overs to set up a 59 run win against Qasra Academy U12s in the Final of the Toronto and District Cricket Association’s (T&DCA’s) Under-12 Championship on September 27, 2020. It was the first championship win for the Cardinals Sports Academy. The delight showed on the faces of the players, coaches and parents when the medals and championship trophy were presented.
The Final was played on the East ground at Eglinton Flats, Toronto. Most games in the pandemic-shortened 2020 T&DCA junior championships were played at Eglinton Flats.
Cardinals U12s Top Regular Season Standings
Cardinals Academy U12s edged out Mississauga Ramblers U12s on Net Run Rate (NRR) to top the T&DCA Under-12 regular season standings. Both teams won 5 games and lost once in the regular season. Cardinals U12 had the edge with an NRR of 1.3674 compared with Ramblers U12’s NRR of 1.230. Ontario Cricket Academy U12s placed third in the regular season thanks to 4 wins, 1 loss and 1 No Result while Qasra Sports U12s also qualified for the playoffs following 3 wins and 3 losses.
The Semi-Finals
The Semi-finals were both played at Eglinton Flats on September 26. Cardinals Academy U12s scored 114/6 from 20 overs then restricted Ontario Cricket Academy (OCA) U12s to 83/6 from 20 overs. So Cardinals U12s won by 31 runs. Rohan Sikri and Arjun Arun each scored 13 runs in a game where extras, mostly due to wides, lead the scoring. Dharm Patel scored 10 for OCA U12s.
Mississauga Ramblers U12s struggled to 41/8 from 20 overs against Qasra Academy U12s in the other semi-final. Marcel Nandu took 4 wickets for 7 runs from 3.4 overs, then scored 22* as Qasra U12s raced to a winning 42/2 after 7.1 overs.
Rohan Sikri’s Bat Dominates U12 Final
Cardinal Academy U12s captain Rohan Sikri fired 86* from 62 balls in the T&DCA Under-12 Final, leading his team to a daunting 149/3 from 20 overs against Qasra Academy U12s. Qasra Academy U12s replied with 90/5 from 20 overs. Michael Nandu top scored for Qasra U12s with 20*.
Cardinals Sports Academy leaders told of their delight with a first championship during the presentation of medals and the T&DCA Under-12 Championship Trophy. It was clearly a day to treasure and remember for all involved with the Cardinals Sports Academy.
