USACCA U17s v OCA

The USA Cricket Coaches Association Inc Under-17’s team (USACCA U17’s) won both T20 games at the Mavis Cricket Ground, Mississauga on Monday August 6th. In the first match, the Ontario Cricket Academy and Club was all out for 43 (14.4 overs). The USA U17’s then scored 44 for six wickets in 14.1 overs.

The second match ended with the USA winning with one ball to spare. The OCA & Club scored a much better 107 for seven wickets in 20 overs. USA U-17’s were 53 for one wicket when there was a break for water. Runs began to flow at the required rate, but a hattrick of boundary catches saw the two established batsmen dismissed in consecutive balls to long on (only difference being one batsman was a leftie and the other a rightie), and one of the new batsmen then holed out to deep mid wicket, almost before the other new batsman had arrived at the non-striker’s end. A legside wide that was also run, a run out and reasonable shot for the winning single featured in the last over.

An ipod glitch during the second game was being overcome by the comparison of a second electronic scoring device, the info on the failed ipod and manual records around the time I left the ground. At some stage the names and scoring highlights should be linked. Possibly NewYorkCricket.com may even be able to make use of some photos taken during the game.

The Mavis Cricket Ground is quite good. As someone had told me during the recent National Cricket League games, it would be nice if it had some grass wickets. It would also be nice if a scoreboard could be added. Perhaps a sponsor might come forward to provide such a facility to help those playing cricket at the ground. It did not seem so hot today, but that might be due to having spent too much time in the sun and heat in recent weeks!
