Canada Selects v CIBC NCL Allstars

Hiral Patel was the star for Canada as they beat the NCL Allstars in the first match of the three game series. Patel took four wickets, and made a quick 46.
The Allstars batted first and slumped to 29/3 after 5 overs. Ottley and Saroye took the score to 64, before Ottley gave Patel a simple return catch. Hamza Tariq hit a nice six but then was bowled behind his legs trying to sweep and Patel took his third wicket when he bowled Saroye, who had played well for his 22. Bashir came, hit a six and went – an eventful three ball innings – 94/7. Jimmy Hansra made an excellent 31 from 18 balls to help the Allstars to 138 from their 20 overs. Patel’s left arm spin earned him 4/19.
Gunasekera and Shah made a steady start until Shah opened up against Hansra, taking 17 from the 4th over. Shah brought up the 50 in the 8th over with a six over mid-off. Shah made 37 before being well caught by Bastiampillai in the covers. Patel came in and kept up the pace, hitting three consecutive boundaries off Cheema and bringing up the 100 in the 15th over with a six off Ottley. He made 46 from 31 balls before being caught on the boundary trying to reach his half-century. Gunasekera who had struggled at times, but batted sensibly finished off the game with a six over mid-wicket. He batted through the innings for 41 off 51 balls.
