USA U17 opens with 36 run win against hosts in Americas U17

USA U17 195 (48.2 ov; Kushai Ganji 79, Novendra Boodhoo 28) beat Bermuda U17 159 (41.1 ov; Delray Rawlins 79; Nahusa Rao 4/27) by 36 runs

Kushai Ganji lead a recovery and took part in a seventh wicket stand of 93 with Novendra Boodhoo for the USA Under-17’s against Bermuda Under-17’s on Monday (August 18) as the ICC Under-17 Championships began at Bermuda’s National Sports Centre. Ganji, batting at number five, was out ninth, caught for 79 and the USA U17’s last wicket also fell with the total on 195. Bermuda struggled to 32/4, sank to 53/8 but rallied with an innings of 79 from Delary Rawlins, and a ninth wicket stand of 80 before Rawlins was last player out with 159 on the board. USA U17’s won by 36 runs and play Canada Under-17’s on Tuesday.

Bermudian opening bowler Chare Smith picked up the last two USA wickets (Ganji and Phill) to finish with 2/24 from 6.2 overs. Sagar Patel scored 20 of USA’s first 25 runs before being bowled by Jordan Smith, who took 1/16 from 7 overs. Opener Arjun Patel made 14 and Jash Patel made 16 during a fifth wicket recovery stand of 35 with Ganji.

Ganji combined with Boodhoo to carry USA towards the 200 mark and to use up most of the available 50 overs. Delray Rawlings took 2/24 from 7 overs and Christian Gibbons picked up 2/25 from 6 overs.

Keifer Phill soon trapped Bermuda captain Alex Dore leg-before wicket for 6, Jash Patel had Shaquille Outerbridge caught for 6, opening bat Nzari Paynter was caught and bowled by Nahusa Rao for 3 and two runs later San’j Dill was run out to leave Bermuda struggling on 32/4. Omari Ebbin was caught for 12 with 50 on the board, then Rao bowled Jordan Smith for
1, trapped Antoinne Seaman lbw for a duck and had Christian Gibbons caught for a duck.

Hosts Bermuda faced a major challenge at 53/8. Delray Rawlins then found a useful partner in Chare Smith. The ninth wicket pair added 80 before USA batting hero Ganji had Smith caught for a useful 15 runs. Last man Cameron Jeffers provided support for Rawlins until Phill bowled Rawlins for 79, making Bermuda 159 all out and giving the USA U17’s a win by 36 runs.

Nahusa Rao ended with 4/27 from 7 his overs, and Phill took 2/19 from 8.1 overs.
