Playoffs today and Finals are near in Saskatchewan Cricket

Saskatchewan Cricket Association’s T20 Quarter-finals and semi-finals are scheduled for today (Saturday September 13, 2014) with the T20 Final to follow on Sunday (September 14) on the cricket ground at Regina’s Douglas Park Canada Games Athletic Centre. In one week’s time the semi-finals of the one-day championships are due to be played with the final to follow on a later date.

It seems only a couple of years ago – it may be slightly but not so many more years back – that there were just three clubs operating in Saskatchewan cricket. This year’s one-day championship included twelve teams while the T20 tournament began with three qualifying groups that included 24 participating teams.

The schedules, scorecards and standings for these two main Saskatchewan tournaments are recorded on CricHQ and are readily accessible through the Saskatchewan Cricket Association’s website. Information that potential cricket scribes could use to produce periodic snapshots and more in-depth reports about the progress and highlights of the province’s cricket tournaments.

But, for now, a brief insight into today’s scheduled T20 playoffs and the one-day semi-finals due to be played next Saturday should provide some crumbs of news for some in the Canadian cricketing family, and, perhaps, beyond Canada’s borders.
Six teams qualified for the today’s T20 playoffs from three regular season groups, so at 10.30am this morning (local time) two quarter-finals scheduled. Regina Royals play Stallions in quarter-final action at Douglas Park with the winner advancing to this afternoon’s Douglas Park semi-final against Regina Super Kings. Saskatoon Warriors meet Jaguars in this morning’s quarter final at the South Park Centre with the winner meeting Saskatoon Knight Riders in semi-final on Saturday afternoon. Play is due to start at 3.30pm in both semi-finals according to the schedule on CricHQ.

The T20 final is due to be played at Douglas Park, Regina this Sunday (September 14, 2014).

The semi-finals of the Saskatchewan Cricket Association’s one-day championship are planned for next Saturday (September 20). Twelve teams competed in regular season play, the four teams who have qualified for the semi-finals are Saskatoon Stars (Won 8, Lost 0, NR 3, Points 19), Cavaliers (W 8, L 1, NR 2, Pts 18), Saskatoon Knight Riders (Won 9, L 2, NR 0, Points 18) and Regina Royals (W6, L 2, NR 3, Pts 15).

Saskatoon Stars will play Regina Royals (Douglas Park) and Cavaliers will take on Saskatoon Knight Riders (South Park Centre) in these one-day semi-finals.

Hopefully the weather will be kind and the players, officials and spectators will enjoy these important championships. (EN)
