New wicket and nets opening on September 21, 2014 in Winnipeg

There is to be a grand opening event on Sunday, September 21, 2014 at 1pm to celebrate a new artificial cricket wicket and two cricket nets at the Elwick Cricket Ground in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The cricket ground forms part of indoor and outdoor sporting facilities under the umbrella of the Maples Community Centre at 30 Maberly Road, which is a turning off Jefferson Road.

Sports programs that operate at the Maples Community Centre include basketball, (ice) hockey, soccer, mini-soccer, karate, hardball and cricket. More general programs to serve the community including a nursery and provisions for seniors are also available. Various developments have been going on at the Maples Community Centre to expand and improve facilities to serve the local community, based on a range of photos and news on the maplescc.ca website.
Best wishes to those who have planned and worked to implement these new cricket facilities to serve the Winnipeg and Manitoba cricketing communities.

The Manitoba Cricket Association’s outdoor playing season seems to be continuing into October, so best wishes to one and all for favourable weather for the ground opening and the remainder of the outdoor cricket season.
