Uganda and Nepal qualify for WCL Div 2

Uganda and Nepal both won the in last round-robin games of World Cricket League Division Three in Malaysia and qualified for WCL Division Two in Namibia during January 2015. Uganda and Nepal will play in the WCL Division Two final on Thursday (Oct 30). ICC Americas two representatives both lost and will be relegated to WCL Division 4.

Bermuda was bowled out for 140 by Uganda on Wednesday (Oct 29). Uganda reached a winning 142/3 after 24.5 overs. This game ended before what seem the daily rains fell. Host country Malaysia scored a couple more runs than Bermuda, reaching 142. Rain came with Nepal on 89/2 after 25 overs, which was more than enough to give Nepal victory under the Duckworth/Lewis method.

The Singapore-USA game had become a battle to avoid fifth place and relegation so the USA resumed on 101/2 from 21.2 overs seeking a target of 200 from 42 overs. Singapore had scored 225/7 from 50 overs. Anish Param top-scored with 72 for Singapore. Steve Taylor and Fahad Babur had helped the USA reach the century mark, although Babur was out for 44. Taylor struck a six to bring up his 50, but lost his wicket a few balls later. Nobody was able to provide the solid run scoring needed to meet the D/L target and the USA innings ended on 167 all out after 39.4 of the 42 available overs.

Nepal and Uganda each won four games and lost one in the round-robin phase. Singapore ended with three wins and two defeats, host Malaysia won two and lost three while USA and Bermuda each lost four and won one.

Last Sunday the result of the Namibia v North West T20 match in the Cricket South Africa Provincial T20 Challenge was unknown in a review about teams Canada will or could face in the January 2015 World Cricket League Division Two. A slight break had been applied to the North West’s strike rate for a couple of overs after a flying start chasing 173 to win. Neil Bredenkamp was the first North West batsman to be dismissed. He scored 39 and was out to the last ball of the 8th over. Fellow opening bat Grant Moekena was then out for 42 after 9.4 overs with 92 on the board for North West. Somehow this seemingly promising start of 92/2 became 124/8 after 16.5 overs. A slight rally saw North West all out for 149 from the last ball of the 20 overs. So Namibia won by 23 runs. Sarel Burger took four wickets that set North West on a slippery path and JJ Smith returned to pick up three wickets. Christti Viljoen, who helped stem the early flood of runs, ended with 2/14 from 4 overs. Burger had lead the batting with 53 runs and followed with 4/29.
