Some event dates in the 2015-2019 ICC calendar

The ICC Board, meeting in Dubai on January 28, 2015, confirmed the dates of ICC Events up to the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup in England.
The Canadian men’s team is due to play in an ICC Americas T20 tournament that serves as a qualifier for the ICC World Twenty 20 Qualifier scheduled in Ireland and Scotland from 6-20 July 2015. The related ICC World Twenty 20 is scheduled for India from March 11 to April 3, 2016.
There are two ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cups on the horizon. Bangladesh is to host the 2016 edition between January 22 and February 14, 2016 with New Zealand hosting the 2018 edition from January 12 to February 4, 2018.

Hope should exist that Canada’s juniors are able to qualify for such events as there is an increasing pool of young cricketing talent being produced in this country. Both U19 World Cup events are being staged during the Canadian winter which puts pressure on the players to be able to perform “out of season” against leading international junior players. Funding needs would exist, as well as player and support staff availability, to allow the Canadian squad to play some outdoor cricket in advance of these tournaments if (when!) Canada qualify.
There is, sadly, little point in complaining about such events being played during the Canadian winter as in May 2006 the ICC announced draft approval for various ICC Associate countries, including Canada, to host future ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup competitions. One now former President of Cricket Canada is on record as indicating Canada’s opportunity to host the U19 tournament was first mentioned at the 2007 AGM of the Canadian Cricket Association(CCA)/Cricket Canada. Some might wonder why the matter was not disclosed or raised from the floor at the 2006 AGM but, apparently, nothing was said.
For the record, I was in South Africa watching two ICC Intercontinental Cup games and an ICC Associates Tri-Nations ODI tournament, so neither I nor the Canadian players and support staff involved in that tour would have been present at the 2006 CCA Annual General Meeting. The drawn game between the Netherlands and Bermuda in the Intercontinental Cup meant Canada qualified for the 2006 “I-Cup” Final. Canada lost the 2006 I=Cup Final to Ireland at Grace Road, Leicester, England in May 2007.
The ICC schedule includes a women’s ICC World Cup in England during August 2017 and a women’s T20 World Cup in the West Indies during November 2018. Some attempts are being made to grow women’s cricket in Canada at present – there have been invites and players have turned up for net practice sessions at Sorkkam’s facilities in Scarborough, Ontario this winter. But the official efforts of the CCA/Cricket Canada to support and grow women’s cricket in the last ten years leave plenty of room for improvement. Time will tell if and when any women’s national team from ICC Americas is given the opportunity to qualify for a Women’s 50 or 20 over World Cup. (EN)
