Peel Region indoor schools cricket

The Peel Region schools senior and junior boys indoor regular season has ended and at least some playoff games have taken place. The Peel Region in Ontario includes the cities of Mississauga and Brampton. More schools seem to have participated in the senior boys section this school year than last year. The north and central divisions each had 9 schools while the south division had 10 schools. The junior boys section was played as one division with 11 schools. Each division was played as a single series of round-robin games.

The Senior North division saw a close finish with Heart Lake ending one point ahead of North Park, Louise Arbour and Fletcher’s Meadow who each won 6 games and lost 2 games that brought 12 points. Heart Lake won 8, lost 1 and tied 1 to end on 13 points. The loss came against Fletcher’s Meadow and the tie was in a game against Humberview, who placed sixth. Fletcher’s Meadow hit 82/2 from 8 overs and followed by dismissing Heart Lake for 36 (six wickets lost is all out in this version of indoor cricket). The tie with Humberview saw both teams make 62 from 8 overs.

Lincoln M. Alexander won all eight games to top the Senior Central division. David Suzuki and Stephen Lewis both registered 6 wins and 2 defeats followed by Central Peel and Rick Hansen who each ended on 5 wins and 3 defeats.

Applewood won nine of nine in heading the Senior South division. Woodlands placed second with 5 wins, 2 losses and 2 ties. Port Credit (5 wins, 3 losses, 1 tie) ended in third place ahead of Lorne Park (4 wins, 3 losses, 2 ties).

A few scores have been posted for four playoff games in the Senior section, so a future check-up on progress will be required.

Sandalwood and Castlebook each won 9 and lost 1 in the Junior boys regular season. Castlebrook reached 45/2 from 6 overs in the head-to-head game with Sandalwood whose openers struck a winning 45/0 after 5 overs. Sandalwood’s loss came against North Park. (EN)
