Win and loss for Toronto CSCC

Like the previous week-end, Toronto played twice on the weekend, with a match against Ramblers C.C. on Saturday 20-June and against the newly formed Cricket Club of Canada on the next day.

Against Rambler’s, Toronto skipper Keshvani won the toss and decided to bat first. Toronto scored 256/8 in their allotted 50 overs. Top scorer for Toronto was their run machine, former first class Sri-lankan cricketer, Dhanuka Pathirana with 62 and was ably supported by former Canadian Captain, Zubin Surkari (54), Reza Ur Rehman (44) unfortunately running himself out, wicket keeper opener Srimantha Wijeyeratne 29 and Ansar Bharwana 22 batting well for the home team. Pick of the bowlers for Ramblers was S. Faridi with 3/59.
Chasing a target of 257 to win, Ramblers started on a sound foundation with the opening pair putting on 81 runs but skipper Keshvani brought himself in and broke the partnership by getting H. Dhindsa for 38. The other opener, West Indian Traven Yusuf was the highest scorer for the visiting team with a well compiled 77 and was out when the score read 137/4. The middle and the tail did not settle in as the left arm spin of Reza Ur Rehman was too tidy His figures were 8.4 over’s 25 runs and 4 wickets. Saad Bin Nazar supported Reza with 3/55 and the Ramblers were bundled out for 200 runs in 46.4 overs to give Toronto a 56 run victory.

The next day Toronto C.S & C.C. ate humble pie by crashing out for 71 runs in a very low chase of 95 runs against Cricket Club of Canada (CCC), at the same venue, Toronto grounds.
It all began with CCC skipper Shah Sharoze winning the toss and electing to bat. Toronto opening bowler Cecil Pervez struck early to claim the first two wickets when the score read at 24/2. At this stage, the skipper brought in the spinners and saw CCC batters stumbling to 95 all out in 21.1 overs. Roy Mehul was their sole saviour after surviving a dropped catch in the very first over before he had opened his account, and scored 34 of the tally of 95 runs. The other bat who showed some form was Ridwan Hassan (23) against his old club.
CCC’s skipper brought in the spinners from the very first over. Pick of the bowlers for CCC was Ravi Persaud, who too played for Toronto last year, claiming 5/26 in 6.1 overs, ably supported by Muhamed Shariq who had 2/30.
It was revealed after the game, that the track for the game was used for three consecutive days and the pitch was below par – spin bowlers got unexpected turn to trouble the batsman from the beginning.
