Hiral Patel has replaced Nikhil Dutta in Canada’s squad for the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier. Patel has scored two centuries in three games this season for his club side, now known as Malton Masters, in the Toronto District Cricket Association. He picked up 4 wickets for 20 with left-arm spin bowling when Masters beat Cricket Club of Canada.

Hiral Patel is the captain of Malton Masters this season. Toronto CC struck 268, including 98
from Srimantha Wijeyeratne and 36 from Shaheed Keshvani (both in Canada’s squad), in
Masters first game of the season on June 6. Hiral Patel hit 113* as Masters charged to 271/4
from 38.2 overs. Ruvindu Gunasekera, another in Canada’s squad in Scotland, helped start the
charge with 35.
Malton Masters scored 253/9 from 50 overs on June 7 then bowled out Cricket Club of Canada
for 105 after 29.4 overs. Hiral Patel took 4/20 after scoring 31 at the top of Masters innings.
Masters managed to avoid rain and wet weather conditions again on June 21. Hiral Patel’s 115
was the cornerstone of Masters 230 all out from 47.2 overs against Islanders. Jeremy Gordon
picked up 3/9 as Islanders stumbled to 67 all out from 26.2 overs.
Masters were showing as the only team in the Elite Division of the Toronto District without a no
result game this morning. A situation that will change once whatever ‘missing information’ is
added to a game abandoned due to rain and wet conditions last weekend before there was any
danger of a toss taking place.
So best wishes to Hiral Patel and the rest of the Canadian tour party, now in Scotland, for the
ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier and best wishes to Nikhil Dutta in the Caribbean Premier
League. Six teams quality from this Qualifier that is jointly hosted by Cricket Ireland and
Cricket Scotland for next year’s ICC World Tewnty20 that India is to host from 11 March 2016
until April 3, 2016. The qualifier begins next week after some warm-up games. (EN)
