U19s beat Bermuda; Canada lose warm up match

It was a day of mixed fortunes for Canadian representative teams as the U19s got off to a good start in the Americas championship with a 71-run win over Bermuda while the senior squad lost to a team composed of Scots club cricketers in a warm up match.

The U19s took on Bermuda in their opening match of the Americas championship and batted first. They made a good start to the tournament, making 257/7 from their 50 overs. Arslan Khan led the way with 94, with good support from Taploo (46). Bermuda made a steady start in reply, but then fell behind the run rate as wickets fell. Harsh Thaker, Shlok Patel and Abdul Haseeb took three wickets each as Bermuda slumped to 186 all out.

Canada lost to a Western Districts team in a warm up match for the upcoming World T20 qualifier in Edinburgh. Canada batted first and made 146, largely due to Nitish Kumar’s 68, from only 38 balls, assisted by Hiral Patel (44) in a 102 run 2nd wicket partnership. This represented an excellent recovery after losing two wickets in the first over of the game but the rest of the batsmen failed take advantage, as wickets fell regularly. Canada’s bowling, Gordon apart, looked ineffective, and Western Districts won by 8 wickets with 9 balls in hand.
