It is playoff day in the Cricket Council of Ontario’s 2015 Under-16 Championship at Centennial Park, Etobicoke. Two of the four teams have won twice and lost once as a result of Team East beating Team South yesterday. Team West won for the
first time, beating Team North so these two teams completed the round-robin phase one win and two defeats.

Team South (W 2, L 1) is shown as first in the standings, so, subject to confirmation at the
ground, South may be playing Team West (W 1, L 2), shown as fourth in the standings, in
today’s playoff games. The current standings suggest Team East (W 2, L1) would play Team
West (W 1, L 2). But this would be subject to official confirmation.
There is a prospect of rain this afternoon, and possibly thunderstorms that could add a twist
before Wednesday’s scheduled Final at Centennial Park. Some phase of the morning into
afternoon may prove to be hot and humid as a high of 28C is projected.
East was bowled out for 107 from 34.4 overs on Monday (July 6) by South. Prakhar Sharma
made 19, Moazim Quereshi 17 and Matthew Seepersaud 13. Rishiv Joshi was left 19 not out as
103 for six wickets became 107 all out (10 wickets) in the space of four overs. Kavian Naress
took 4/9 from 4.4 overs. Two of his wickets came during this late order collapse, two came
during a spell that captured the fourth and fifth wickets of the innings. Opening bowler Harkaran
Mann took 2/16 from 7 overs and Kevin Gilotra took 2/26 from 8 overs.
South came into this game with 2 wins from 2 games, but the batting failed from the start.
Wickets were lost to some catches and some were lost to sloppy run outs from a batting side
perspective, but the fielding side took advantage of some bad calls for runs by the batters.
Matthew Seepersaud bowled two batters with consecutive balls to end the fifth over of the
innings: South 8 runs scored and five wickets lost. Soon to become seven wickets lost for 8 runs.
Lovett Marquis played down the line of the ball and was 14 not out when South’s innings ended
34 all out after 14.4 overs. Matthew Seepersaud’s four overs cost 9 runs and he took 4 wickets.
The game on the west pitch saw North reach 127/7 from 40 overs. West’s top three batters
responded well but the innings stumbled before the winning single carried West to 128/6 from
33.3 overs.
The top four in the North innings had each made an individual start, each reached double figures
with Abaan Khan topping the scoring with 41 not out. Bhavindu Adhihetty made 17, Eshan
Sensama 15 and Jasmeet Bhatti 19. By contrast, West had an opening stand of 77 with both
openers – Muhammad Abubaker and Nikhil Sharma – contributing 38 runs. Ravi Sandhu scored
29 batting third. North’s opening bowlers each took 2/20; Bhavindu Adhihetty took his two
wickets from 8 overs while Abaan Khan took his wickets from 7.3 overs. (EN)
