Canada are still looking for their first win of the World Cup T20 qualifier, after losing their fourth straight match this time to hosts Scotland. Canada’s top order failed again, and only a good partnership between Dhaliwal and Junaid Siddiqui allowed Canada to bat out their overs, giving Scotland a modest target of 136. They passed it with ease, with 8 wickets and 5 overs to spare. Any hope of qualifying for the next round is now extinguished with just the Netherlands and Afghanistan to play.
Scotland won the toss and put Canada in. Gunasekera (19) was caught in the third over, attempting another big hit after striking consecutive sixes. Patel hit a six from his second ball but was leg before from his fourth, and yet again Canada were struggling early on. Kumar hit three fours but then he was caught, leaving Canada 48/3 in the 6th over. Cheema was caught in the eight over for an uncharacteristically circumspect 14 from 19 balls. Wijeratne was caught and bowled, Hamza Tariq failed to score and Canada were 78/6 with 7 overs still left to bat. It was left to Dhaliwal (34*) and Junaid Siddiqui (28*) to salvage the innings with an unbroken 48 run partnership, taking Canada to 135.
Scotland got off to a quick start, with the openers putting on 45 before Dhindsa bowled MacLeod in the 5th over. Kyle Coetzer made an unbeaten half-century, and Scotland eased to victory with 5 overs to spare.
