Mississauga Ramblers Under-19 Desmond Haynes cricket tournament

Today (Friday August 21, 2015) was the third scheduled day for the tournament that concludes on Monday (August 24) with two matches: one to decide third place (9.30am scheduled start) and the other is the Championship Final (1.30pm scheduled start).
The ground where play took place is commonly called Iceland by the cricketing community; Iceland is really the name of the hockey complex to the north of the cricket ground. The address is given as 616 Driftcurrent Drive, Mississauga, on the Chauka tournament scoring setup. The sign for the park, for those entering on foot from the west says it is Red Brush Park.
ice5Green brush park seems a more appropriate name for the photo where a ball was lost to the natural vegetation early in the day’s opening game between Team A and Team D.

ice1ice2This infrastructure photo collection shows the volunteer groundstaff on a mower cutting the grass and, later, rolling one of the turf wickets.

The grass had dried out a bit more after rain on Thursday so the afternoon game was able to use a natural turf wicket but the morning game used the artificial surface wicket. So another member of the groundstaff is seen painting the lines for the creases at the southern end of the pitch.ice3
There’s the person who has found a job as “coordinator” for at least the day, if not the tournament, the morning game umpire, a photo of the toss for the afternoon game that includes one of that game’s umpires (one captain usually tosses the coin, but a slight variance to the MCC’s Laws of Cricket seemed to take place on Friday afternoon).
Two tent covers/roofs were put in place to keep the scorer/players dry or drier in the event of rain; there were a few spots of rain early on, but play went on. And if there had been a collection of sponsors advertising boards in front of the “grassy bank” then the ball that was lost early may not have been lost. (Eddie Norfolk)
