MCC and CanAm teams

The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), whose home ground is Lord’s Cricket Ground, London, England (historically, the ground is in the County of Middlesex), first visited Canada in 1905. History was made on September 14, 2016 when the first MCC Women’s touring team played a game in Canada. Indeed, MCC Women played and won two T20 games against CanAm, who had played several matches during a tour of England this August.
The aim of MCC tours, such as the MCC men’s visit to Canada in 2012 and the current MCC women’s tour, is to assist in the development of cricket in the country or countries that are visited. The MCC women began in USA, with three games in the Philadelphia area, before moving north to Toronto.
CanAm and MCC Women joined together before the second T20 for a group photo that marks this historic tour to Canada. The two T20 games were played at the Toronto Cricket, Skating and Curling club.

Note: Aylish Cranston and Sarah McCann shared a 3rd wicket stand of 54 for MCC in Game 1 v CanAm.

The MCC Women’s tour continues on Thursday (September 15, 2016) with a 50-over game against a Canada Select XI at the Toronto Cricket, Skating and Curling Club. All are welcome, admission is free and the game is scheduled to start at 10am.
MCC Women will also play a Canada Select XI at Niagara Cricket Centre (5114 Thorold Townline Road, Niagara Falls) on Saturday (September 17, 2016) and at Maple Leaf Cricket Club, King City (corner of 15th Sideroad and Dufferin Street) on Sunday (September 18, 2016). The game at Maple Leaf CC will be the last on this first of North America by an MCC Women’s team.
‘According to a list seen at the Toronto Cricket, Skating and Curling Club on Wednesday (September 14, 2016), the Canada Select Women’s squad to play a series of matches against the touring MCC Women comprises: Durriya Shabbir, Nicole Gallagher, Monali Patel, Achini Perera, Miryam Khokhar and Hiba Shamshad (Ontario); Divya Saxena, Zarfishan Waqar, Malika Ali and Harshini Choudri (Alberta); Christine Blackadder and Irudaya Reddy (British Columbia); and Alicia Porter (New Brunswick).
