Jon Harris writes to the Canadian High Commission, Pretoria, South Africa
Wed, 29 Jan 2003
Dear High Commissioner:
The following is extracted from an article in a recent edition of the Natal Witness.
"it's the Canadians who are in third-world straits but that's the truth. They have no money in either currency. The Canadian High Commission in Pretoria rustled up some funding so they would have something to eat and drink this week. That's the limit of their government assistance. A high-ranking diplomat in Pretoria was not very sympathetic. She suggested a possible question for interviews: "So, I guess you guys don't get bothered by bookies, eh?". "
May I have your assurance that this portion of the 'report' (in the Natal Witness) is erroneous.
Should you be able to confirm my perception that this is an 'erroneous report', may I have your further assurances that the necessary response has been expressed.
