Women’s cricket underway
The St. John’s Herald on 23 September 1891 described a peculiar match “between a team of ladies and team of gentlemen. The gentlemen wore skirts and played with broomsticks instead of bats. The ladies were victorious”
After this promising start, women’s cricket has been absent from the province for nearly 130 years, until June 13, when our first women’s session finally took place. A small and enthusiastic group learned some basic skills and had a fun match. Come out and join this keen group – next week’s times will be set soon.
