Fund raiser for Waqas Ali
Our friend and fellow cricketer Waqas Ali was badly injured in a car accident last week. We are thankful to hear that he is recovering well, but this accident will have a major effect on his life and well-being for the next few weeks. Like many of us, his family is far away, and this is a time when his cricketing family can step in to help. Waqas has been a prominent member of our community for years, important in growing the sport here, and a founder of the Eagles club.
Waqas would be the first to step up if any of us needed help, so the least we can do is to lend a helping hand. Cricket Newfoundland and Labrador is thus coordinating a fund raising effort to help cover Waqas’s expenses as he recovers. The organization has committed to donating any surplus from the upcoming Super Smash tournament to the fund, and also will, if weather and schedules permit, allow clubs to have friendly matches at RCAF field if they contribute a minimum of $5/ player to the fund.
If you wish to contribute, we’d ask that if you are a member of one of our clubs, that you coordinate with the club to arrange a donation on behalf of the club; having a group donation is easier for us to keep track of than many individual donations. Individual donations are of course very welcome as well.
You can donate by Interac e-transfer to firstname.lastname@example.org; contact us at the same address if you need to make other arrangements or have any other suggestions for fund-raising.
