Canada.com report..

"Gurmeet’s vision for the national team kicks into operation this year. For the first time in the history of the sport the Canadians will earn $30,000 a year.

“We want to make it as professional an environment for the players as possible who now have to juggle between full-time jobs and play the game on a part-time basis. We’ve asked Cricket Canada to select 24 players from the national squad, the developmental squad and the under-19 team to start training at a cricket academy in Toronto and then embark on their first trip later this year to Australia.”

Former Australian fast bowler Geoff Lawson is among three stars on an advisory board and will take charge of the squad Down Under. The others are cricket icons — Wasim Akram of Pakistan and Brian Lara of the West Indies. Lara is in the process of arranging matches and a training camp in the Caribbean in 2020."

Great news.. the Canadian cricketers will be so grateful to this guy for all these opportunities! First they got a chance to play with the best players in the world, be on live telecast in 170 odd countries, be on Canadian tv channels for the first time, learn and test themselves with the best etc etc. Hope this works.. in times like these where Canadian boys have very little to be positive, there is a big ray of hope. Already impressed by the performances of our boys overall...

Very interesting to read about Gurmeet Singh and some details of GT20.
This news certainly could be a big boost for the future of Canadian cricket. It would have the greatest benefit for younger players. Not sure how many older players will be able to participate.

There have been some mixed signals from Bombay Sports Limited and Cricket Canada on player remuneration, however:
-Early this year CC announced $40K (from GT20 owners) for 18 members of the national team as they attempted to qualify for the CWC League 2. It later turned out the full sum was contingent on successful qualification.
-Then there are reports that Canadians players were left surprised and disappointed that their reserve prices would not be honoured in the 2019 GT20 draft. (Instead they would receive up to $7500 US).
-GT20 players had to threaten to withhold their services in response to not receiving stipulated payments.
-Now 24 Canadians will apparently be awarded $30K contracts.

This is a hopeful development but we'll have to see how it all unfolds.

Yes..hopefully this will be sorted out. Canadian players and the way they have performed deserve in the range of 20-30k for this tornament. Cecil Pervez was so good..so was Thomas, Saad, Gordon, and some others. All in all, feel something positive has happened and has some ray of hope for future.

Is anything happening on this once-promising front?

No news of a fall tour to Australia.
No news of a 2020 Caribbean tour when the team needs it most ahead of the Challenge League 2nd round.
No news of any $30K contracts.

Is it likely these developments have taken place in complete silence? No.

Add this to the supposed $40K for NT members announce prior to WCL2 training (which subsequently became lesser amount) and there has be considerable skepticism about anything Bombay Sports announces with respect to Cricket Canada.
