Some interesting information here:

1) Had long queried (with no replies) whether USA/Canada had to pay to play
in the Windies competitions. Now have the answer. ;)

2) $86K for 16 people staying two weeks in the states!!! That's more than $5K
per person!!! Have been to Canada many times
and stayed there for two weeks for under $1500. :o

3) Get people from non-cricket backgrounds to GT20? Hmmm...hasn't
Yours Truly long been demanding every expat that goes to that event must bring
two non-cricket background friends with him! 8-)

Sports Trends interviewed leaders of Cricket Ontario and several of its leagues regarding the 2020 coronavirus-affected season.
Leaders of Toronto & District Cricket Association, Brampton-Etobicoke & District Cricket League, Hamilton & District Cricket League, Ottawa Valley Cricket Council, Scarborough Cricket Association, Mississauga Cricket League were featured.

Major points:
* All the leagues are in the same boat waiting for ground permits from the various municipalities before they know how much of a cricket season can be played.
* Those leagues that have collected playing fees will refund the clubs based on the length of season that is possible or credit them for 2021 season.
* GT20 2020 tournament is in a similar situation and must wait to see when/if they are given permission to access the field. City of Brampton was planning to start setting up the temporary stadium early but this is now on hold.
* BEDCL was planning to introduce leagues for youth, women and seniors for 2020 season.
* MCL was planning to add 50 over league

Nitish Kumar - catch you live this Friday! Get ready to talk us through what it was like facing Brett Lee, Mitchell Johnson and Shaun Tait as a 16 year old, in a World Cup!

Folks, as a 25 year old, this lad has played 7 WC Qualifiers, 3 World Cups, First Class Cricket, Franchise Cricket and more! Join us live on the 24 April 7.30pm CAN time (will be the 25th in Australasia i.e 7.30am SNG, 9.30am QLD). You can’t miss this!
Update: Nitish identifies playing time (league and international) and not having a full-time national coach for any length of time as key factors in Canada's lack of success in recent years.

Apparently, the CC President did another interview on SportTrends on June 21st. I haven't listened to it yet but will post anything of interest when I do. Also, if any news comes to light about that review of the 2019 WCL2 failure or the "new proposal" for women's cricket, I will let you know.

www.youtube.com/sportstrends

CC Facebook announcement: https://www.facebook.com/SportsTrendsCa ... =3&theater

Summary:

On Various items
* At the end of his first stint as President, Mr Saini says he was trying to launch professional cricket league with Full Member support. Was "very, very close".
* Believes Canada could have been FM with Ireland if he had been around to pursue the goal
* President claims he would have retired after 2019 WCL2 had Canada qualified
* Blames team's WCL2 failure on lack of commitment from some players but ultimately on the "management" (presumably including CC Board and himself) for failing to get the players fully on board
* Wants HP program to be his legacy. Tried to launch the program in 2019 but finances weren't there.

On Canadian HP (First Class?) League
* Cannot support league or player contracts until finances are in place - must be sustainable
* Would require minimum $1.5M/year = $600K for 14 players, $100K for coach, $200K for facilities, + (3 tours/year @ $140K/tour)

On GT20
* Canadian players are not more highly paid because GT20 is at infancy stage. To compensate Canadians better might push tournament out of business.
* President is very disappointed and angry the owner has not delivered on the required training to Canadian players

My thoughts:
* The interview goes over items touched on in previous interviews but still interesting, if long.
* That Mr Saini was not asked (nor likely volunteered) to complete the effort he started to bring in a pro league with FM support, says a lot about
Canadian cricket: "If I'm not going to get the credit, I have no interest in advancing the sport."
* Mr. Saini is a bit idealistic in thinking Canada could have been a FM with Ireland and ahead of Afghanistan. Canada had been to 3 consecutive WC but was very poorly organized compared to the leading Associates. It wasn't until 2017 that Ireland and Afghanistan were promoted - a long time to remain ahead of the other Associates.
* Mr Saini's claim of stepping aside in 2019 belies the board's behaviour toward the matter of governance of cricket in Alberta. Is that the behaviour of someone willing to relinquish control?

The hour long programme stretches to an hour and 50 minutes- the President is not known for concise answers.
I skipped through it- the first hour is mostly personal history, and history with cricket administration. I believe he does address more recent issues with the national team but I can't say that I listened to much more than the statement that he is submitting his nominating papers for re-election

First two paragraphs of new President's letter to Wickets magazine:
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the stakeholders who have put their faith in me to lead this prestigious organization . I assure the Canadian cricketing fraternity that maintaining the integrity of this office and restoring their trust in Cricket Canada will be my utmost priority. I welcome all the newly elected and present Board members . I am very excited and looking forward to working with the Executive Board that has been assembled .We as a Board will be transparent, accountable and answerable for the decisions we make on behalf of our members and stakeholders .

The most pressing task for this Board will be to unite this country and resolve any pressing issues our cricketers/members are experiencing presently. This Board will utilize all the regional and national expertise to accomplish the task of uniting this great country.
https://wickets.tel/cricket-canadas-new-president/

"transparent, accountable and answerable" - words never hitherto spoken by a Cricket Canada president. :D
Is the 2nd paragraph a reference to sorting out the Alberta situation ? If so, it would be a welcome change of course.

Is this a new era for CC ? There are trust and unity issues within the Canadian cricket community that have long held back Cricket Canada. Yet the leadership over the decades has preferred to maintain the conditions that allowed for their election. Now we have someone who acknowledges the problems. Does Mr Bajwa have the determination to engage the community and communicate a plan to improve CC ? It is too early to say but his start to the task is better than his last several predecessors.

From CC FB

"Go Canada" - Mohammed Shaikh will lead the Media Relations portfolio that will focus on increasing Cricket Canada’s Public Relations and Social Media presence, while improving its communications, both internal and external and enhancing its brand presence.
Also...
... the Board has also invited applications from suitable candidates for a newly created position of Women’s Cricket Coordinator.

Interesting to see who wants to be this women's coordinator
considering they're going to have to do a lot and not get
paid one red cent! :o :o
