It will be interesting to see the results of this double round robin.
How will Canada fare against the USA after the latter handled them easily the last time the teams met?
How well will Brazil do? Their players are new to the sport but they are a full-time professional side, I believe.

"Team USA" has a lock on this thing not because they're particularly good but because
everyone else is so weak. With their latest mercenary, the
Pommie bowler Norris, "Team USA" will have the best bowler in the tourney.

Ouch! 10 wicket win for the Americans in Canada's 2nd match. Brazil at least took 4 wickets.

Well there’s our answer - USA wins the tournament. It took the USA 16 overs to get 64 against Brazil. Was the bowling so much better?

Yes, I guess we'll have a partial answer tomorrow: Which is the 2nd place team in the tournament, Canada or Brazil? Disappointing that our ladies were never in the match with the Americans but I am looking forward to seeing outcome of the Brazil match. Regardless of the result, though, I don't expect it to be very flattering to Cricket Canada.

Canada are a class below the Americans at this point. Saxena did well in the previous match but really struggled in this one- I think 19 balls before getting off the mark, and running out Khokar needlessly - she could have at least tried to sacrifice her own wicket but turned her back on Khokar and saved herself. It was frustrating seeing innocuous balls outside offstump watched through to the keeper with no shot attempted.
Canada's fielding was weak in comparison to the US, with a few exceptions, and the batting showed an inability to execute the fundamentals - no idea how to rotate the strike, find the gaps in the field and the running between the wickets was poor.
In mitigation, the US is drawing from a much bigger player pool, they bowled extremely well, especially Norris who I suspect is far quicker than the Canadian women are used to, and Thadani. They gave little away in terms of bad balls so the Canadians actually had to work for their runs. Canada has had no real match practice and most of the team have played very little cricket of any sort in the last couple of years, so this was always ging to be tough. Lastly the wicket was very poor- balls flying head high from a good length, and excessive spin- but that was the same for both sides and the Americans had the bowlers to take advantage.
However it is great to see the women's team playing internationally, and there's no shortage of enthusiasm. A couple more wins against Brazil and Argentina will at least put them on the ICC ranking tables, and perhaps we can look for the team to learn from the US match and give them more of a game to finish the tournament. Realistically we are looking at 5 years to build a serious women's programme in Canada and it will need buy in from all levels of the game.

You Canucks better resign yourself to the reality that your cricket has been completely eclipsed by USA
with both men and women. ICC favoritism to USA paying dividends and the gap is just going to grow
wider. What a role reversal from 10/12 years ago when Canada flying high in WCs and "Team USA"
was the sick man of cricket! With do-nothing CC leadership (what good did this recently hired
"Women's Manager" do?) and ICC favoritism the two countries are going to continue going in
opposite directions.

This year there was actually a pathway to selection. Regional tournaments followed by selection (I assume) to the National Championship followed by selection to the Canada team. With Canada becoming internationally ranked, they can be included in, for example, qualifying for the Commonwealth Games. The thing is, CC is going to have to keep going with interprovincial, representative, inter-city games next year when there might not be any big international tournaments to aim for. This year, there were only two teams in the Western Canada Championship (AB and BC) because selection was considered in the results. There was discussion about including as many players as possible (ie a SK team) but if the level was not very high then it compromised those trying to get selected to Canada.
