Americas A Qualifier

Post by Victorian » Fri Apr 20, 2018 10:41 am

Canada, USA, Panama, Belize from Sept. 16-23 likely in Florida. In my view, Canada should send a mix of experience and youth to develop players. They shouldn't have any problem beating the Central Americans. Don't worry about winning the tournament as such. Send a few HP guys and guys from all over the country, not just Toronto.

Well, ICC still true to form with their favorite son. I expect EVERY
Americas tourney for whatever event to be held in the states. Canucks,
Shorts, can give their grounds a long, long, rest!

ICC again bending over backwards for Americas. Although they have far less countries
than all the other regions except EAP ICC's giving Americas three spots in the regionial
qualifier. Only one for Europe! These are best bets:

Africa: Kenya, Uganda, Namibia
Asia, UAE, Singapore and either Qatar/Malasia
EAP: PNG
Americas: USA, Canada, Bermuda
Europe: either Denmark/Italy

With 16 teams in the T20WC 'ssociates
have at least a shot, but it will be a long one. With the 12 full members only
four sports open for the 'ssociates.

I'm not sure what you're getting at, Timmy. Where are you getting your numbers?
The ICC says there will be: "Six teams from the ICC World T20 2016 which are not in the Top 10 MRF Tyres ICC T20I Team Rankings as at 31/12/2008 will automatically qualify for the ICC World T20 Qualifier, alongside the eight qualifiers from the regional finals."
https://www.icc-cricket.com/media-releases/669237

I would expect the 8 regional qualifiers to be:
Africa: Kenya, Namibia
Asia: UAE, Nepal
EAP: PNG
Americas: Canada, USA
Europe: Denmark

The six countries gaining automatic entry to the ICC World T20 Qualifier would most likely be: Ireland, Scotland, Netherlands, Hong Kong, Oman, Zimbabwe. From that tournament 6 berths will be available in the World T20 in 2020.

Doesn't the ICC chart show 11 regional qualifiers (3 Africa, 3 Asia, 3 Americas, 1 EP, 1 Europe)
even though there should be 8?

Anyhow, gonna be tough road: To qualify US/Canada will not only have to beat out one of the 6
automatic qualifiers but beat out all of the other 8 regional qualifiers.

If the projected track of hurricane Florence holds true,
that area of North Carolina is going to be dumped with over
a foot of rain. And if it stalls over that area very real possibility
not a single ball will be bowled in the tourney.

It'd be a shame if the double round robin becomes a single round robin. Even worse is the stupidest thing in the whole wide world...reduced T20's. It'll be awful if they play 6 over games.

Forecasts say the hurricane could dump 40 inches of rain in North
Carolina by mid-week. Idiotic to hold a cricket event on the eastern seaboard/gulf
during hurricane season...but then we ARE talking about the ICC here.

I recognize pretty much every name on the team list. I think CC should use this tournament to play some young guys. Have a mix of youth and experience, although none of them are going on international tours all of the time.

Squad:
Nitish Kumar – Captain
Abraash Khan
Cecil Pervez
Dilon Heyliger
Hamza Tariq
Junaid Siddiqui
Navneet Dhaliwal
Nikhil Dutta
Ravinderpal Singh
Rizwan Cheema
Rodrigo Thomas
Romesh Don
Saad Zafar
Srimantha Wijeyeratne

I think Singh, Thomas and Don might be new to the national program and this is Abraash Khan's first senior call-up. Cricket Canada appear to be focusing on players they think can help them sooner rather than later. Only 4 former U19s in this group.
