We’ve seen no sign of a squad announcement to date. We understand from conversations around the grounds that players are being asked to pay a substantial amount of the costs of participation. This is apparently due to the ICC not covering all costs. We also understand that the tour is “optional” and the team participating is not the full national team. It was selected from a pool of players who agreed to share the cost.

In view of this information, a reasonable guess is that the USA and Bermuda associations balked at having to pay to play and only Cricket Canada had enough interested players to field a side. A full-strength Canadian team may have been unlikely in any case but these circumstances might call for tempered expectations. We have to hope there is some mix of experienced players and likely members of the 2019 Canadian U19s.

Sounds as though the ICC is cutting back on this aspect of Americas regional development. Is it because the funds were redirected to USA men's development camps?

6th Match:
Windward Island 310/7 (50 overs)
Canada 231/9 (50 overs) [Kevian Naresh 71, Rishiv Joshi 36]

The CWI Regional U19 championship is over for Canada. The team were well beaten in all their matches. However, it has to be considered that this team will be eligible for the 2020 Youth World Cup and so were playing a year younger than the Canadian team that was invited last summer. Also, we don't know whether this was a full-strength side. The standout player was Kevian Naresh who appears to be ready to take a leadership role. Canada will be hoping for a consistent bowler to emerge for next summer's Americas championship.
