Are Windies gentrifying their cricket?

Post by timmyj51 » Fri Aug 24, 2018 12:21 pm

In interview CEO of Windies Cricket has big plans to bring Windies cricket to Laudherhill.
Gonna play India there next year and every year til 2022 (copycatting
MLB in London?). Says its to "develop" cricket in states (after seven years not much to show,
with Americans showing absolutely no more interest in the latest Lauderhill game than the first).
But then, big temptation to go where
you can charge $40 a ticket rather than $5 in the Windies. So the cricket fans in
the islands watch their cricket migrating to the South Asians of Silicon Valley.

Not surprising CWI are trying to tap into the North American market. However, they seem to be coming at it from the same angle as everyone before - aiming to attract existing cricket fans, which we have seen is a limited and diminishing audience. Seems doomed to eventual failure.

The only good thing is that part of the CWI effort is appears to be including Cricket Canada and USA Cricket in more of their plans. Both now have their own team in the Super 50 and their was even a hint of an invitation for North American women teams to the Caribbean.

Reports now claim Windies will also be playing Pakis in Lauderhill.
More cricket for the Silicon Valley Desies...less and less for the poor
cricket fans in the islands.
