8 Canada players registered for the players draft for the inaugural edition of UAET20X. 5 Franchise-based tournament (3 ICC Associate member country players mandatory per each squad). The likes of Hamza Tariq and Dilon Heyliger are among the 8 to be in the draft:

Thanks for this, Czarsportz.

A path toward professionalism for the top Associate players is emerging with the proliferation of 10/20 over tournaments. However, will the ICC try to put the brakes on these competitions so they don't clash (take players and viewers) from Full Member tournaments?

Don't think players associations around the globe will let it happen..there will be protests if ICC puts a cap on leagues or player participation..if anything, putting a cap on Full member players to play only 3 leagues a year opens the door for Associate member players even more..

It will be crucial for Canada players to put up a good show in CWI regional Super50..notable performances will get them opportunity to feature more in CPL..we saw Saad bin Zafar get a call-up for SKN Patriots based on his GT20 Canada final performance..

.. And then it all went a bit pear-shaped.

UAET20X cancelled:

This gives a bit of perspective on how quickly Mercuri were able to put things together for the GT20 Canada and how committed they were. Canadian cricket can count itself lucky for as long as this ride lasts.
