Teams of 17 Players:
7 from Full Members
5 From Canada (3 Canada NT, 2 Canada 'B')
5 From international Associates (including 1 from Americas Associates)

Playing XI players:
5 Full Members
2 Canada
4 Associates

Squad compositions will mean fewer Full Member pros on the field. The tournament will rely on the icon players to attract cricket fans as most won't be familiar with the Canadian and Associate players. The tournament seems very favourable to international Associates. Cricket Canada can only hope other tournaments will choose Canadian players to fill their Associates slots.

Well, that means six of the eleven starters will be associate players.
Like having a "major league" baseball team with four major leaguers
and five minor leaguers on the starting team.

Thoughts on the draft:
  • Draft was interminable. What was it, 6 hours? A re-think for next year is in order.
  • The requirement for a ICC Americas player guaranteed an American on each team. There had better be a similar requirement when the U.S. starts their league :x .
  • Pleased that Davy Jacobs and Romesh Eranga were included, although it might have been part of the deal if they signed the GT20 contracts offered by Cricket Canada. Also nice to see Canada U19 graduates Arslan Khan, Akash Gill and Faisal Jamkhandi picked up.
  • A little surprised at the way Global T20 and Cricket Canada created the Canadian National Team and Canada 'B' lists for the draft. When current national team members like Romesh Eranga, Rodrigo Thomas and Mark Monfort are allocated as 'B' team you have to wonder. Was this to get more senior players to be picked? Also wonder whether Nick Kirton was included in the lists. He might have been a candidate for a Canada B spot.
  • More surprised Bhavindu Adhihetty was not picked. I can only assume he was not part of the draft which is a bit strange given his decent performance at the WCL2 in May.
  • Other surprises: A new name, Kaleem Sana, selected from National Team pool. Have to think this is him:http://www.espncricinfo.com/pakistan/co ... 85938.html. CC lining up a candidate to replace Eranga?

"there had better be a similar requirement..." Don't bet on it! Wouldn't be surprised ICC
did some behind the scenes arm twisting to get "Team USA" players in the competition. Wasn't
the whole purpose of this GlobalT20 to give Canuck players experience at a high level? Instead six
"Team USA" players will now get this benefit...players who'll apply this experience beating
Canucks!!!

The CAA Centre in Brampton has been named as the venue for the 2019 tournament according to GT20 Facebook page.

It is situated at one corner of the intersection of the 410 and 407 highways.

The complex appears to have 3 existing cricket fields (artificial pitches) which might have to be somehow reconfigured to accommodate the ground, stands and additional parking necessary.

The schedule for the tournament is also out. The 4PM matches may prove a challenge for fans as the rush hour will be in full swing.

Peter Della Penna participated on the Emerging Cricket podcast speaking in part on GT20 draft https://emergingcricket.podbean.com/e/e ... ella-pena/

He revealed the following based on what he'd been told:
  • $7500 cap for Canadian players in draft, regardless of draft reserve price they set. (cap set by CC)
  • Some national team members (Gunesekera, Pervez, Weijayratne, Siddiqui, Adhihetty mentioned) may have been left off the Canada 'A' and 'B' draft lists
  • Global T20 sponsored contracts for Canadian team members were only for 3 months leading into WCL2 - the remainder of the 12 months was contingent on gaining ODI status
The first 2 points are causing some unhappiness in Canadian ranks according to PDP.

What I'm going to be watching very closely is this hotshot marketing firm, Lang Marketing,
that they've hired. Wanna see what they come up with to promote the game/event.

^ Yes. Organizers have had an entire year to think about marketing to locals. Not much new so far. Doesn't help that they appear to still be hiring the marketing manager ...

We are looking for a dynamic Sports Marketing Manager to join our team and up our game. Ideally you have passion for Sports, are driven for results, based in the GTA, and have a background in Sports Marketing. Send us your resume on business@gt20.ca #GT20
This should have been sorted ages ago and roll-out plans well underway. The emphasis still appears to be on the overseas viewership where apparently the real money is. This doesn't help Cricket Canada in showing the sport to the masses. That said, CC doesn't seem interested in even updating their site to name the Canadians drafted to GT20. Disappointing.

Well, USACricket, six months after initially advertising the position, still haven't
hired their CEO. Hope they don't repeat the CC disaster with their last CEO...they
took, if I remember, six months to hire "the perfect person" for the position...and
he turned out to be total bust!
