Important quote from article "Global T20 Canada Has Ambitions to be ‘Bigger & Better’ in Second Year" linked on the Canada Cricket site.
https://www.news18.com/cricketnext/news ... 06497.html
After the success of last year, the owners want the tournament to be bigger in the new season, shifting to a more central location with the help of the Canadian government.
If organizers manage to move some or all matches to a more accessible venue it would be the most significant change toward making the tournament (more) viable.

Article really didn't say much. Where is this "new venue" going to be? And
if the "Asian market" is what they're after its doomed to failure like every other
cricket venture that ignores the mainstream populace.

Mercuri's two T20 ventures may not be so different after all with the EuroT20 Slam following in the path already laid by Global T20 Canada. ET20 Slam seems like a bit of a hybrid between GT20 and the Full Member T20 tournaments. There will apparently be three venues (Dublin, Edinburgh, Amsterdam) each hosting 10 matches, thereby saving on much of the travel/accommodation/venue costs. However, the other 3 cities nominally participating in the ET20 Slam will never see their teams play live. This doesn't fill me with hope that Mercuri is capable of learning and adapting their product.

ET20 Teams: Dublin Chiefs, Belfast Titans, Amsterdam Kings, Rotterdam Rhinos, Edinburgh Rocks, Glasgow Giants.

New York Legends ?!!!

Windies 'B' out?

Is this the first indication that GT20 might evolve to include the US?

GT20Canada tweet:
The countdown starts 86 days to go! @gt20canada . Our teams! @vancouver.knights @montreal.tigers #torontonationals #edmontonroyals #winnipeghawks #newyorklegends . .

ICC might be trying to get "Team USA" players into the mix, but twitter link doesn't show anything. Anyhow, they'd
just be another team playing in Toronto...out of sight and sound of USA.

Global T20 announcement at Brampton City Hall : https://www.facebook.com/SportsTrendsCa ... o_explicit

Hightlights:
  • Brampton will be host to the 2019 tournament. Final venue not yet decided. This is the most significant development from year one. Will it be reflected by more fans in the stands?
  • Drop-in pitches well be used
  • NY Legends have been axed (by the ICC apparently). Another Canadian city will have the honour of being represented from afar by foreign mercenaries. So weird.
  • Apparently, 2-3 Canadians in the starting XI, thanks to ICC pushback. Really? It took the ICC to get such a modest increase in Canadian content?
  • Did Jason Harper say the GT20 draft would pushed back (again) to June 20?

Well I'm hoping for the St. John's Codfish for team 6. We've got the field for the home games and they can drop the pitch in besides the artificial we've constructed.

GT20 Canada twitter now showing June 20th (the date being floated in the Brampton City hall launch video) as the date of the 2019 draft.

I hope the repeated postponement was due to getting NOCs for some high-profile players and not just bad planning.
Have to think the draft will be conducted early in the day to coincide with primetime in India/South Asia.

So ... Brampton Wolves. Probably a wise choice for the locals with the tournament being played in the city. I would have hoped GT20 organizers would rebrand the other teams as well to attach them to the major population bases of the GTA. Oh well.

Hmmm. Four teams wearing shades of yellow (Edmonton, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Brampton) ?

Based on what I've seen of the 2019 draft, it would be an understatement to say social media will play a big role in monetizing the GT20.
