$40K men

If CC's announcement that they're planning to offer full time
contracts to 18 players, with an average of $40K per annum, is
true, it'll be one of the most generous arrangements for any Associate.
Since this will cost CC more than half a million they better hope Mercuri
will keep their promise of running their tourney for 25 years.

No details on which players were were awarded these contracts.

For those making the cut, it makes sense for young players to sign. Also for those who can manage to swing a year away from their employment, being paid for playing cricket full-time is an attractive, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. However, I can't see it being realistic for anyone who is established in their career and probably with a family and mortgage. Walking away from a decent job for a short career as a pro cricketer (a few years at best) at a rather modest salary and possibly having to move to Toronto would require a very confident, optimistic individual. It will be interesting to see who signs if this is announced.

Where is the money being generated? There are no fans. It's all from Mercuri's mystery money pot? By their own admission, they lost 10$ million in 21 days last summer... Spectacular. How can this possibly be supported? Sounds like an absolute party at the moment. With money to burn, maybe some decent nets, artificial surfaces, and lawnmowers could be purchased first so people could actually play cricket...

So what has happened with this?

Just saw a tweet:

Tim Cutler @timcutler
Just spoke to @canadiancricket's Romesh Eranga (10 wickets @ 19 in 4 #WCL2 matches). Says he quit his job in a physio clinic to play & now has to find a new job &/or complete his physio degree now his "cricket career is over". Better than some I *guess* but still, cutthroat stuff
Very unfortunate for Eranga's personal life and might mean Canada will be missing their best pacer for Challenge League. Surely he would have a spot in the Global T20 if he wants it. His performance at the CWI Super-50 last fall should put him on the radar for one of the Americas Associates reserved spots.

Has there been some sort of tournament in the USA recently? Probably a T20. I guess Cheema hit a bunch of sixes. Any other Canadians involved?
