2019 ICC Americas Women's Qualifier

Post by ray » Wed Mar 27, 2019 11:42 am

The qualifying tournament (Canada vs USA in Ft. Lauderdale) is scheduled for May 17-19. Likely a best-of-three affair. The winner will be the Americas representative in the 2019 Women's World Twenty20 Qualifier and the 2020 Women's World Cup Qualifier.

However, this tweet suggests there will be another tournament in May involving Canada, USA, T&T and an ICC Americas development squad:https://twitter.com/yourmaninmexico/sta ... 4934216705. It would make sense if this was the prelude to the qualifier but no details (such as scheduling or location) are available.
AnaLaura Montenegro is in the @iccamericas Women XI to play US, Canada, Trinidad and Tobago in May. She is the first Mexican to appear in an ICC team!

Even Mexicans are outdoing USA/Canada in attracting women cricket players! Remember
seeing somewhere that Bermuda will also be participating in the Americas qualifier....

This official ICC release say only Canada and USA will compete for the Americas berth in the T20 and WWC qualifiers. https://www.icc-cricket.com/media-releases/1054922
But hey, that's still twice as many as got to compete for the spot last time  .

You're right about South and Central Americas attracting players, however. Seems their women's teams are more active than in the North.

Further details on the tournament involving Canada, USA, T&T and ICC Americas teams from "Trinidad & Tobago Under19 Women's Cricket Team" Facebook:
https://www.facebook.com/pages/category ... 092093002/
ICC Americas has invited TTWCA to send a team to participate in a tournament in the USA among Canada, USA and a representative Americas team.

TTWCA has decided to send a development team of players averaging 21 years and under.
I can't tell whether this is an official source but it is all that is available as ICC Americas, USA Cricket and Canada Cricket have said nothing so far.

Dates for the tournament are mentioned as May 13th to 18th which conflict with other info on dates of Americas qualifier.

Canuck women need to clearly understand what ICC expects of them in this Americas Qualifier with favored daughter, USA, (whose tickets to the WWC Qualifier have probably already been booked):
(1) show up (2) lose (3) get lost.

Canada outclassed at the Women's qualifier. Canadian women's cricket at risk of going back into dormancy for the foreseeable future.

There are two days of women's Victoria vs. Vancouver games this summer and an annual cricket festival north of Victoria in early July. Maybe some selectors could check it out and get a few players to the Cricketfest in Toronto.

Hearing the same old excuses...Canuck women lost because they were "mismanaged."
Anyone looking at the videos of these matches is in denial if they won't admit this is just poor
quality cricket, on both sides, even by women's standards. Full tosses, full-toss wides,
passive batting, sloppy fielding, laughable running between the wickets, etc, etc.
What's needed is not more coaching, more tours, more training, but a massive infusion of new talent.
