Is this true? It will affect the Challenge League if it is.

What is the format of this Challenge League?

We might want to keep half an eye on the T20 WC Europe qualifier later this month. Certainly the CC braintrust (har) should. It includes Denmark, who are in Canada's group in the Challenge League and also Jersey and Italy who are in the other group.

According to Tim Cutler from Emergingcricket.com the Challenge League will be three WCL style tournaments.

^ Yes, I think this is what has been described before: 3 tournaments for each group of six teams played over 3 years. Each tournament is similar to a WCL tournament (6 teams). However, the Challenge League results are cumulative over the three tournaments. Promotion of the group winners (and possibly relegation) is only determined after the final tournament is complete.

So Canada play each of their group A opponents 3 times over 3 years for a total of 15 matches to determine the group A winner.
Group B of the Challenge League is played in parallel.

Denmark finished at 2-3 and one win was against Italy who were desperate for net run rate. Surely Canada won't have a problem defeating the Danes? Jersey won the tournamemt but they had to wait many minutes for an official decision. Tension!

Another of Canada's Challenge League opponents, Malaysia, appear to be in action for the 1st time in 2019. They are currently hosting a T20 tri-series with Thailand and the Maldives and having an easy time against these lesser sides.

The CWC League 2 series have been already been set (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019%E2%8 ... 2#Fixtures). Wonder when we can expect the formal announcement and schedule for the 1st rounds of the Challenge League. It is supposed to start in August but might be pushed back as that would mean a tight overlap with the Global T20, the CPL and the T20 World Cup Americas Qualifier. Cricket Canada may be quietly happy that only Nitish Kumar was chosen for the 2019 CPL.

Yet another of Canada's opponents in the Challenge League, Qatar, are playing T20s vs Kuwait. Kuwait won the first game. Canada will win games easily vs. Qatar. CC needs to use such games for development of high performance type players.

^ Indeed, 3 of our CL opponents in will be involved in the Asian World T20 Qualifier later in July. Malaysia, Singapore and Qatar are playing as is Nepal, a strong side that gives a good point of comparison. Malaysia will also host a pair of matches against Nepal as preparation.

Edit: In the two match T20 series hosted by Malaysia, they played quite well against a full-strength Nepali side. No recent 50 over action for Malaysia it seems.

Malaysia is reported to be the host for the Group A tournament. It doesn't say when.

Ah, completely missed that with the announcement of the Zimbabwe suspension.

Malaysia are probably the team that could trip up Canada and they'll get at additional boost by starting at home.
