CC consultation on next strategic plan : https://cricketcanada.org/news-single?nid=139

Here we go again :D . With the new board going down this road the minimum expectation must be posting of consultation results and later a plan with realistic, measurable goals and timeframes.

We will do our best; I can certainly commit to providing consultation results. A strategic plan is needed- the challenge is to put together one that is realistic, effective and will actually be followed, rather than an academic exercise in governance. For those interested, here are one person's thoughts:

Role in cricket : Non-player (fan)

What grade do you give Cricket Canada on their delivery of the 2018-20 Strategic plan : D - only delivered on a few aspects of plan

Which of these vision statements to you think best fits Cricket Canada?: To be a leading cricket nation through growing popularity, building a professional sports organization, achieving domestic growth & international success

Which mission statement best fits Cricket Canada? : To govern, develop and promote cricket across all regions of Canada

Which of the following should Cricket Canada consider as its main values (select up to 5)? :
Teamwork and collaboration, Innovation, Accountability, Inclusivity, Fun

Please rank the following strategic priorities in terms of importance (1- not important at all to 5 - highest priority) :
Increasing the number of participants 3,
International success for senior teams 5,
Development of women's cricket 4,
Improving CC governance 3,
Better aligning provincial members and CC 2
Raising profile of cricket through promotion and public engagement 4
Securing sponsors 5
Developing elite players, coaches and officials 5
Improving the national competitive structure 3
Improving infrastructure 3
Supporting high level cricket tournaments to be held in Canada 2
Diversify the participation and fan base by making it inclusive across ages/genders/demographic groups 2
Forge strategic relationships with governments, media, sponsors, fans and players with the goal of inspiring and involving all 4
Popularize and promote cricket in all provinces and communities 2

Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats Analysis
Strengths:
Increasing participation,
Juniors qualifying for U19 world cup consistently,
Passion and awareness in the vast immigrant population,
Franchise based competitive and professional league

Weaknesses:
Lack of corporate sponsorship,
Lack of visibility on the national sports spectrum,
Low participation levels of women and girls and lack of competitive opportunities for this group,
Absence of clear pathways for players towards National representation,
Dearth of infrastructure,
Perceived lack of trust in governance and administration at all levels (club to national),
Lack of strong development programs,
Other-Cricketers have no interest in national teams/Cricket Canada

Opportunities:
Build a Centre of Excellence to train HP teams,
Untapped potential in female cricket,
Engagement of people through social media to popularise the game in Canada

Threats:
Lack of progression and performances of National teams at international events,
Perception of a non mainstream sport played by immigrants from cricket playing nations,
Lack of accountable and responsible governance,
Lack of funding

What a total FARCE! Instead of explaining why they haven't delivered
on most of their 2018-2020 goals they....throw out a survey! Yes, please
tell us what next we'll FAIL to do!!! :x :x

Wow I have a totally different vision than Ray does. To me, grassroots participation growth has to come first of all which will lead to more of everything else - officials, facilities, sponsors and success of the national teams.

^ Fair enough. I doubt there's one surefire way to do development. What works in one country/province/state/city may not work as well in another. A bottom-up approach has been and is being tried in various places in North America. However, I don't think we want or need to put all the eggs in one basket.

There’s a post on FB showing a strategic planning session with sll CC board members. I posted a comment- “Please practical and positive moves. Not nice words and wishful thinking.”
Why are they all dressed in CC official shirts?
I’d like to know what’s been accomplished since the last go tound of this exercise.

^ Yes. Almost two years into the board's mandate and the discussions are still ongoing 😥. Every new administration consults on a new plan then fails to deliver anything concrete - certainly nothing that can be measured or on which the leadership can be graded. This is just the latest disappointment along with the promise of transparency and accountability.

Unless there is an implementable plan, we won't see progress on the field.

And don't expect any, old boy! North American cricket hopelessly mired in
lethargic, listless, netherworld of non-accomplishment. Endless pronouncements about "exciting future,"
...with absolutely nothing to show in the real world of accomplishments, initiatives,
expanding popularity, etc. ICC's even trapped in the quagmire; in its latest
development strategy wants 50k Americans playing cricket in 10 year years!
They haven't got 50 playing in the last fifty years! :( :(
