Canadian Women's cricket
Re: Canadian Women's cricket
Nice to see more than just two teams in this qualifier (especially teams of natives, not just expats
as is the case with you-know-who) even if the SA teams
will probably be completely outclassed. Where's Bermuda?????

Commonwealth Games from point of view of Associates: https://emergingcricket.com/opinion/com ... portunity/
-2022 Birmingham, England
-A women-only tournament for this edition
-8 Team tournament - some form of qualification must take place
-West Indies nations having compete separately also adds to need for qualification
Cricket Canada should be lobbying not have our women forgotten in all this. Merely participating in a qualifier opens to door to federal sport funding and possibly increased corporate interest. The women's team must push for this because CC does not have a history of willingness to speak up for our cricketers.

ICC T20 Women's rankings:

The long and the short of it appears to be Canada are out because we are not even in the rankings. No matches means no ranking. Unfortunately, the 2021 Americas T20 Women's championship comes far too late for us. We are paying a price for our inactivity. I don't think it is a good look for CC when Samoa are playing more internationals than Canada.

Re: Canadian Women's cricket
Canada COULD go to the WI qualifier. At least they would have a theoretical chance of qualifying and would possibly be able to access funding. I posted earlier in this thread that Canada is going to be left behind by other countries going big on womens and girls cricket.
Re: Canadian Women's cricket
CC has announced a womens selection panel. Two from Ont. and one from BC - specifically Victoria. Surely, they’ll have to travel a bit to see some games and tournaments?
Re: Canadian Women's cricket
What is being called the Western Canada Women’s Cricket Championship is set to happen July 17-18 in Vancouver. It is only Alberta v BC. Apparently there was some discussion about including as many teams as possible but also having the tournament serve as a selection camp for Canada so therefore having experienced players competing with less experienced players therefore there are only two teams.
Re: Canadian Women's cricket
Alberta won the series 2-1 to claim the Western Canada Championship. Interestingly, the best batswoman () best bowler and MVP were all from the BC team. Best batswoman and MVP were one and the same.
Re: Canadian Women's cricket
Cricinfo reporting the Womens Americas T20 Qualifier will now be
held in Mexico, Oct. 18-25. Gotta wonder what kind of pitches they'll
find there.

Re: Canadian Women's cricket
Canada W defeat Argentina W by 72 runs. A good start because it shows that the USA is the team to beat. I mean that Canada can beat Argentina and Brazil. The scorecard was livestreamed on youtube.

Canadian Womens Premier League being explored : https://cricketcanada.org/news-single?nid=203
Sounds like a 3rd party would be funding the venture if it goes forward. There is no money in Canadian cricket for the foreseeable future. Can the fact CC has mentioned this be taken as a good chance it will come to fruition - like when they put out an article about the GT20 in late 2017/early 2018?
This is the only good news for the Canadian women so they really need the league to happen to kickstart the program after years of neglect.
Maybe I'm cynical but it is a bit suspicious that this story is posted as we approach an AGM with the incumbent president's term ending. If Cricket Canada can do this, how about also addressing our lack of U23 programs?
