pro T20 league coming to USA?

Post by timmyj51 » Tue Nov 27, 2018 12:33 pm

USACricket website announces that they are accepting proposals
to start T20 pro league in USA by 2021. Proposals have to be submitted
by Jan. 4. Going to be VERY interesting to see how this works out considering
the failures of CPL, All-Stars, etc. Their proposal guidelines omit the most
important requirement: how are they going to attract mainstream Americans
to the game? To just jump into a full fledged league without sorting that out will
suicidal, as Mercuri painfully discovered.

Wonder whether Mercuri would want to bet "double or nothing" on North American market and put in a proposal.

Doing the whole flying across USA makes no more sense there than in Canada. "Toronto" and "New York" divisions with some cross-over matches is more workable. Just dispense with the charade of city names and go for names like Eagles, Freedom, etc.

Of course, it will be twice as expensive and there is still the problem of engaging the Toronto/New York locals and keeping them engaged for say 3 weeks. Finding a suitable venue in New York is another issue. However, the U.S. market is larger and will automatically garner more interest from around the world. American business is also more willing to spend advertising $$ than their conservative Canadian counterparts. Also, if Mercuri were to reach a deal they eliminate competition (for players and audience) for the GT20 Canada.

What makes you think Americans sponsors are going to be more willing to support cricket?????
Have Pepsi, Nike, the beer peddlers. etc., been flocking to Lauderhill????
Anyhow, looking at this request for proposals it seems USACricket wants this organization
to completely take over cricket development in the states; to promote the game in schools, colleges,
with kids, women, to provide facilities etc etc.

USACricket website says they've received over twenty intent to submit
proposals for USA T20 tourney. Will they make the names of these applicants public?

Peter Della Penna reporting that 2 bidders remain for US T20 franchise league. It doesn't seem that the Mercuri group got very far if they bid at all.
Some big money being mentioned. As always, we'll have to see whether the fans want to see the product.

According to multiple sources, 2 finalists remain for USA Cricket's T20 Franchise League Tender: A joint bid by Willow TV & Times of India Group vs. a joint bid led by Jay Pandya's Global Sports Ventures. One bid is believed to be a minimum of $500 million for a 25-year license.
The big question for Global T20 Canada is when the new tournament will be played. They will probably be hoping it is not in direct competition for players and viewers.

Well, ICC (who, for all practical purposes, are still running USA cricket) got the big name, deep pocket, partner
they were looking for. As usual, press release full of hype and promises and will have
to wait til after the WC when, the say, they'll reveal the details of this big deal. $500 mil
over 25 years? Have sold out America to the Indies for the next 25 years. Also, hate
to say it, but the USA T20 thing may be the doom of the Canuck T20 league. Won't hesitate
to run it against the Canada gig and will attract the best players, maybe even fans, who'll
prefer to come south to watch their cricket.

Reports out that one of the pro league losers is suing USACricket, ICC, etc. for "corrupt" selection
process. Anyone still think USA cricket has turned over a new leaf? :o :o :o
