Watching Canada opponents Singapore and Qatar on youtube. Tiny oval! Land is scarce in Singapore of course. CC should be paying attention to this game. Surely Canada won't have problems against these opponents.

Oh dear! Singapore defeated Nepal and won the tournament AND...Qatar defeated Nepal and Malaysia! Maybe the Challenge League won't be a walkover! Possibly, Canada will be in League 2 with Zim out and others moving up?

Yes, the Gulf states are making surprisingly quick strides. Qatar may be tougher than expected. We'll see how they play the 50 over game. Good thing Singapore are not in our Challenge group.
Edit: Ooops! Singapore are in our group. That will make the Challenge League a good deal toughe.r

Regardless of these results, Canada's approach doesn't change. Take a strong team to Malaysia with a couple of our best young uncapped players also included. While we need to win we also have to build a side for 2022.

Within the story of Cecil Pervez's final over in the GT20 semi-final (good read) there is a quote mentioning Malyasia and Dubai tours. Seems Canada should be ready for the Challenge League. Incredibly busy year for the team ...

Schedule for round 1 (Malyasia, Sept 2019) according to Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_Mala ... e_League_A)
Canada's matches:
September 17: Vanuatu
September 19: Malaysia
September 22: Qatar
September 25: Denmark
September 26: Singapore

I couldn't find the official announcement from the ICC.

^ Interesting.
  • Looks like Davy Jacobs and CC have had a falling out. CC don't tend to like criticism and I'm sure there was some on offer after the GT20. If this is indeed how it ends, sad to see his comeback done -easily the most consistent and effective player from the final WCL2.
  • Wijeyeratne back in the fold for 50 over
  • Shahid Ahmadzai finally is able to travel with Canada a decade after "defecting" from Afghanistan U19s. Could be a useful bowler.
    https://www.thestar.com/news/gta/2018/1 ... games.html
  • CC have apparently tapped Abraash Khan and Harsh Thaker as the best candidates from the young player pool to make the step up. Their experience at the Americas T20 Qualifier is set to carry over into the 50 over game.
  • Ingleton Liburd is listed as "Interim Head Coach". Do CC have someone else in mind ?

    Edit:
  • I missed the fact that Bhavindu Adhihetty was also omitted. He was the young player with the most international experience at this level with good success given his age. Wonder what the story is there ... school, work, out of favour?

Frustrated that there are no updates anywhere. Should be used to it by now. There's a fake scorecard on the Malaysia cricket website and, of course, nothing from CC. Cricinfo will have scores of the tournament proper but not exhibition games.
