Windies Super50
Windies Super50
Canada is scheduled to compete in what is now known as the Colonial Medical Insurance Super50 Cup. They start on Nov. 8 in St Kitts and Nevis. Also the USA.
Re: Windies Super50
^ Thanks. Awesome news! I was hoping Canada's inclusion would be announced after the CPL and so it was.
I hope Cricket Canada will use this tournament to bring in a few of the recent U19 graduates.

Re: Windies Super50
I also was thinking about what the approach should be for selecting a team. Putting a bunch of back ups means they would not be competitive. Developing for the Challenge League should be considered.
Re: Windies Super50
Well ... that's a few more new faces than I was expecting.
Squad: https://cricketcanada.org/news-single?nid=65
1 BAT OPENER RH KANWARPAL TATHGUR ON CAPTAIN
2 BAT OPENER LH JEET MEHTA ON
3 BAT OPENER RH HARROBINDEEP SEKHON AB
4 BAT MIDDLE ORDER RH HARSH THAKER ON
5 BAT MIDDLE ORDER LH KANWAR MANN AB
6 BAT MIDDLE ORDER RH SHREYAS MOVVA QC VICE CAPTAIN
7 BAT ALL ROUNDER SPIN RH ARSALAN KHAN ON
8 BAT ALL ROUNDER SPIN RH YAX PATEL AB
9 BAT ALL ROUNDER SPIN RH NITISH KUMAR ON PLAYER MENTOR
10 BAT MIDDLE ORDER RH RAYYAN PATHAN ON
11 SPINNER/ALL ROUNDER LH SHAHID AHMEDZAI ON
12 FAST BOWLER RH HARMANDEEP SINGH BC
13 FAST BOWLER RH NAUMAN ZAFAR ON
14 FAST BOWLER LH SANA – UR- REHMAN BC
ASSISTANT COACH DAULAT KHAN ON
COACH/MANAGER AMRINDER BHINDER
-Looks as though Kaleem Sana, hero of the GT20 final, has been called up.
-Canada needed to look for new players but perhaps this is too much of a good thing. Might have been forced by so many players having to take time away from work and family recently. Team continuity could be an issue, though. We need to be somewhat competitive at the tournament.
-So, do we have a new coach or is this a one-off ?

Re: Windies Super50
Ties in with a question I've always had:
Been browsing through the CC 2017 Financial Report (none for 2018).
Under "Expenses" there's one for "tournament costs, development, apparel" for $413K.
What is this? Is CC paying to play in these Windies (or other) tourneys? This
is not player salaries or travel expenses which are listed separately.
Since this amounts to almost half the $900K welfare check CC gets from the ICC like to know
what's its spent on.

Re: Windies Super50
Yes this is very much Canada A. I'm behind the team but I have low expectations. Obviously, someone might make a name for himself and get a career going. Check the makeup of the team - three from AB, two from BC and one from...QC? Wow!
Re: Windies Super50
Nicholas Kirton has been named to the Barbados Pride for the Super 50. So again this year, an extra Canada player will participate in the tournament.
This might be his best chance to make an impression and a career in cricket while remaining eligible for Canada. He will need to make the most of it.

Re: Windies Super50
I guess the team with all new faces is probably because of unavailability. Also from all accounts all teams suffered in Dubai heat...players too may not be keen on a tournament which is nothing but a improvement opportunity..nothing at stake. Hope these are the reasons.
Other I too feel that it is good opportunity to find 2-3 good young players.

Nov 8 Canada vs Leeward Is. Hurricanes
Canada 'A' not embarrassing themselves by any means. LIH 88/4 in 20.3ov
Ahmadzai the only expensive bowler so far.
Update:
LIH 257 all out 49.1 ov
Canada 187 all out 42.4 ov
Leeward Islands won the match with 90 odd in the last 10 overs. Only one Canadian batsman approached a fifty. However, Canada's effort in the field did reveal a few bowling prospects - more will have to be seen from them. Not a terrible result given the lack of international experience in the squad but the batting will have to improve for the national team to identify any potential there.

Re: Windies Super50
I like the attitude of the Canadian team, at least early on in the game. They look enthusiastic, like they want to be there, encouraging each other, getting to the ball...Also, within hours, 53000 views!
