Decent tournament for Canada. Wish the team was more youthful, but hey, take whatever positives there are. We surely got 3-4 good prospects that can step up to the full team. Adds to the bench strength. Harsh, Sana, Shahid, Mann, Pathan look to have some quality.
Please CA get a proper coach now. I have no doubt, that if we had a pro coach in UAE, we would be going to Australia, and comfortably. Whats gone is gone..we can still make it to the 2021 T20 WC.

Thoughts on 2019 Super 50:
  • This tournament has shown Canada has enough talent to play competitive cricket at this level. All being equal, the senior team should have been expected to win a couple of additional games.
  • This tournament was some of the best opportunities ever offered to new players. With Cricket Canada’s usually limited schedule they will struggle to provide such a chance again.
  • Several batmen need work on finding the gaps in the field (and those senior team, too). CC owes the players a good standard of coaching to identify and correct each player’s weaknesses.
  • The inexperience of the players highlighted the challenge of moving up from league play/U19 national team to the senior international cricket. Ambitious players will probably have to go overseas to better themselves. They’ll need to play a higher level than Australia’s local district leagues that some have tried.
  • The following players might be in line for a senior team call-up based on tournament performance:
Harsh Thaker: Best batting numbers after Kumar and only player returning from last year other than Kumar. Faced twice as many balls and doubled his runs over last Super 50. Unexpectedly tied for most wickets.
Shahid Ahmadzai: A decent performance on his first tour. Was well in the runs and co-led in wickets. Given his age, his time is now so expect CC to bring him in for a Challenge League round as they nearly did in September.
Kaleem Sana Ur Rehman: The only pace bowler handed more than three outings. Was often economical, if not a wicket taker. A good candidate for T20?

Some stats from Kirton...
Nine matches
avg 27
str rate 70
two 50s
He took 2 wickets in 4 innings at an economy of 3.09 and, I think, 5 catches.

Nick Kirton clearly has talent but seems to suffer from serious problems with confidence. He started this tournament with 3 strong innings followed by 4 poor ones. His professional prospects in the Barbados/CWI set ups are very much up in the air.
I'm not sure he is much help to Canada unless he can sort himself out.

Not unexpected news, but Canada and USA are out of the next edition of the Super 50 (Feb 4-27, 2021 in Antigua and Barbuda)

Nick Kirton is back with Barbados Pride.

So much for all the yelping we've been hearing for years from WI that
they're going to do everything they can to help "grow" cricket in the USA.

2021 Super50 will not be a total loss for Canadians. Nitish Kumar has been called to the training camp of Leeward Islands Hurricanes. He will tryout for a contract with the side. He is the only Canadian given a Super50 trial. Not sure whether other Americas players also got trials.

... and Kumar makes the squad!
