Canada @ 2020 Challenge League A (2nd round)

Post by ray » Mon Oct 14, 2019 12:47 pm

The ICC October meeting appears to indicate Malaysia will AGAIN host Challenge League A in 2020.

Challenge League A and B

Malaysia will host the ICC Challenge League A from 14-27 March 2020 whilst Uganda has been appointed to host ICC Challenge League B from 27 July – 9 August 2020.
Of course, it seems quite ridiculous, offering advantage to the same country of hosting twice in such an important series. It also disadvantages northern hemisphere countries like Canada and Denmark who will be playing out of season. Can the ICC not be even-handed in these matters? Namibia got to host 3 tournaments in 5 years and now Malaysia. Why? At least let a Full Member host so no one gets an advantage.

Yup for some strange reason, Malaysia is a very preferred host for a long time. Canada could have easily been the hosts. Having said that we dont know if other countries have even put forward their names to host. Ranjit Saini can answer that.

We're only two months out. What is going on for preparation. Some guys must be working out...? What about warmup games/tours? They can't expect to waltz through this tournament.

Unfortunately, Cricket Canada website does not believe there is anyone in Canada that would be interested in this information. You and I do not exist, Victorian :D .

As was the case for the 1st round, the schedule for the 2nd round of the Challenge League is out but only one organization is willing to share. Hint: It's not the ICC.
https://cricket.dk/landsholdet-til-aust ... -malaysia/
The tournament starts on the 16th of March where we play Qatar at the wonderful venue that is Kinrara oval. The following fixture schedule looks as such, 19th of March Denmark v Canada, 20th march Denamrk v Vanuatu,23rd of march Denmark v Singapore, 25th of March Denmark v Malaysia.
I guess we'll have to wait for the scheduled matches not involving Denmark. :D

Two of our League A opponents, Malaysia and Singapore, are preparing for their region's T20 World Cup qualifier in early March. So both sides will be playing lots of cricket ahead of the Challenge League.

Squad: https://cricketcanada.org/news-single?nid=97

Navneet Dhaliwal (RHB) (Capt)
Shahid Ahmedzai (SLA)
Nikhil Dutta (ROS)
Romesh Eranga (LMF)
Faizal Jamkhandi (RMF)
Armaan Kapoor (WK/BAT)
Abraash Khan (RHB)
Nitish Kumar (RHB)
Salman Nazar (SLA)
Varun Sehdev (RHB)
Ravinderpal Singh (RHB)
Harsh Thaker (RHB)
Srimantha Wijeyeratne(WK/BAT)
Saad Zafar (LHB)

Lots of spin options but less experience for pace. Looks to be the debut tour for former U19s, Jamkhandi and Kapoor. In fact, fully half the team represented the country at the U19 level.
Pervez, Heyliger, Tariq and Thomas are left out from the previous round of the Challenge League.

Edit: Off topic, but how is it possible CC don't have their own photos of their own players?
