“They’ve been playing cricket for barely a year, but four local women will take the field at a major regional tournament this Canada Day long weekend. Jen Gafka, Esther Byers and sisters Martina and Rosalee Rhode, who began playing last year for Chilliwack’s fledgling Eastern District Women squad, have been selected to represent British Columbia at the upcoming Western Canada Cricket Championships in Edmonton. Their inclusion in the B.C. squad marks just the latest step for a sport that didn’t exist in Chilliwack five years ago.”
