ICC Americas lost by 42 runs to the Windward Islands Under-19’s on Saturday (August 25th) in the West Indies Cricket Board Under-19 Limited Overs Regional Championship. The game at LIME SC, Wildey had a delayed start following the recent heavy rains and waterlogging. Thus it was reduced to 29 overs a side before play commenced.
The Americas side held the Windwards to 84 for four wickets after 19 overs. Gidron Pope bolstered the scoring with 72 not out as the Windward Islanders innings rallied to 171 for seven wickets in the allotted 29 overs. The last ten overs saw the addition of 87 runs.
The Windwards took three early wickets, leaving ICC Americas tottering on 14 for three wickets. Canada’s Akash Shah made 28 runs and Bermuda’s Kamau Leverock battled away to score 56, but the Americas could not successfully attack the Windward Islands total after the early setbacks and closed with 129 for eight wickets (29 overs).
In Saturday’s other Under-19 championship games, Guyana’s 237 for nine wickets (50 overs) brought a 40 run win against hosts Barbados, who tallied 197 for nine (50 overs). Jamaica recovered from 53 for five wickets at the 11 over mark to reach a winning 218 for eight wickets with two balls to spare against Trinidad and Tobago. The T& T Under-19’s had been bowled out for 217 runs in 48.3 overs.
There was no play in any of the three matches scheduled last Thursday (August 23rd) due to ongoing rain and waterlogged pitches associated with Tropical Storm Isaac. ICC Americas had been scheduled to play Guyana.
ICC Americas are due to play Jamaica Under-19’s on Monday (August 27th) at Foursquare Oval, and conclude with a game against Trinidad and Tobago Under-19’s next Wednesday (August 29th) at Pine Basin.
