Canada Day weekend – cricket across Canada

Manitoba overcame the traditional prairie powerhouses of Edmonton and Calgary to take the Western Canadian Under 19 championship. They scraped past Calgary on Canada Day, dismissing Calgary just 5 runs short of their own total of 166. Jatinder Matharu (42) and Waleed Ahmed (35) led the batting, and the wickets were shared amongst four bowlers. On July 2nd they demolished Edmonton. Harpreet Manes took 6 for 16 as the northern Albertans could muster just 43, and Manitoba lost only 2 wickets in passing their total.

In Vancouver Richmond won the Canada Day 6 a side tournament beating Centurion in the final – 16 teams took part. Richmond had a great weekend, defeating fellow BC club Abbotsford CC in the finals of the John Ross Robertson Championship and being crowned western club champions of Canada.

In Montreal, Quebec beat Nova Scotia in two competitive 20-20 matches, and a 50-over encounter. The 50 over match featured a huge total of 365/6 by Quebec, with Kamal Singh making a double century.
